A quick story for you which may help.
Travelling thorough the freestate 11 years ago, bultfontein to be more specific when I locked my keys in the boot on my E46.

Called out BMW service guy and he asked if I had a pin on me.
Able him one, he then took a wire hanger , pulled the loom out from the boot gutter, just below the rear windscreen. Cut a small opening in the loom .... Pulled out the red and green wire( lol )- slid the pin straight through with either end sticking out.
Took his jumper cables and touched both exposed ends and the boot popped.

Then point of this story is, perhaps you'd need to get an auto lecki to look at it.

open the glove box, at look at the top. there is a unlock.lock boot button. Someone probably locked it.

I had an E39 with the same problem - turns out some of the wires in the loom to the boot-lid was broken. Don't know if the newer models might have similar problems.

This will not work, & is not the issue as it actually locks all forms of opening the boot, including the key & button on driver's side. I had first hand experience of this when my daughter locked it.

I'm interested to find out what the solution would be though.

Dont easily discard something as simple as this. I know a few people who did not know of that lock, and had that problem. I am not saying its definitely the case, but worth checking out.

I'm not sure why you misunderstood me :fencelook:. But I am simply trying to help a fellow fanatic by sharing my experience & providing guidannce with the issue, like everyone else here. As I understand, that's what this forum is about. I agree, there's a number of people who don't know about the lock. As a matter of fact, I also didn't know about the lock when I experienced the problem, & had to google the problem to find the solution.

But I take Comfort in the fact that I am part of a forum with great guys that care. :bravo: "Give that man a Bell's"
