Nice to see they actually running the 335s now :)

How did they do against the owdees? I know last season they were struggling to keep up with the quattro in the corners.

CLASS A:
Race 1
Pole-sitter Melvill Priest stunned the Production Car race fraternity with a scintillating lap of 1:18.669, well below the 1.20 lap record. He then blasted his Afrox BMW 335i into an unassailable lead, winning at a canter.
Behind him things weren't as cut-and-dried. Johan Fourie, chased hard, his IndyOil Audi being pushed relentlessly. Johan initially tried to stay with Melvill but soon came under attack from Anthony Taylor in the second Afrox BMW. Anthony passed Johan during a fraught second lap, which slowed Johan sufficiently to give Michael Stephen a whiff of the 3rd podium spot. This materialised for Michael, when on lap 5 of 6, he ousted the burly Capetonian from the podium. Michael took his Engen Xtreme Audi to a new lap record in the process. Johan finished fourth, well ahead of team-mates Leeroy Poulter and Marco da Cunha in their Tubular Tech Nissans.
Officialdom then stepped in and after viewing footage and receiving reports, Michael Stephen was found guilty of passing Poulter under yellow flags, relegating him to fifth. The good news for Fourie and Poulter was that they moved up to 3rd and 4th respectively.
So, with da Cunha still sixth, Tschops Sipuka (Engen Xtreme), Hennie Groenewald (Timken Subaru), Lee Thompson (Rough Rider BMW) and Richard Pinard (Midas Lotus) were the final runners.

Race 2
The partially inverted grid led away, Marco da Cunha leading from Leeroy Poulter for half of the first tour, before Poulter passed him. Marco defended his team mate valiantly for three laps, but then Johan Fourie finally muscled past. Fourie and Poulter battled fairly for 2 laps before the inevitable contact was made, Fourie ramming Poulter sideways and damaging the Audi radiator in the process. The Audi overheated, leading to its eventual demise. This dropped Leeroy to third, Michael Stephen pipping him for the runner-up spot. Fourth place went to Taylor, marginally quicker than Priest. Sipuka, Thompson and Groenewald rounded out the class.

Race 3
The overheating engine of local hero Johan Fourie was rapidly replaced and ready within minutes of the start of the 3rd race. He rewarded his hard working team by leading the ten-lap heat from starting lights to chequered flag.
He set the quickest lap of the race, and a new overall Killarney Bridgestone Production Car lap record, in the process. Behind him, Melvill Priest beat off persistent challenges from a determined Leeroy Poulter, with the Afrox BMW finally crossing the finish line less than a second ahead of the Nissan.
Anthony Taylor took the fourth place, beating Michael Stephen, with Marco da Cunha, Tschops Sipuka and Lee Thompson rounding out the top seven places.

AUDI MOTORSPORT SET THE PACE AT KILLARNEY

Against all odds and some tough competition, Audi Motorsport walked away with a race victory and new lap record at the second round of the Bridgestone Production Car Championship held in Cape Town this past weekend (13 March 2010).

Johan Fourie (IndyOil) topped the time sheets throughout all of Friday’s practice sessions, but lost pole position, by two tenths of a second, to Melvill Priest (BMW 335i) on Saturday morning. Michael Stephen (Engen Xtreme Team) managed to qualify fourth, despite suffering from an electronic fuelling problem. Team mate Tschops Sipuka was further down the field in seventh.

While Johan held onto second place off the first rolling start, Michael became embroiled in a huge tussle with Leeroy Poulter (Nissan 350Z) and was relegated to fifth place. These positions didn’t last long though. Two laps later, Johan made a small mistake which opened the door for Anthony Taylor (BMW 335i) who stole second place. During this period, Michael reclaimed his position and mounted an attack on Johan. Michael managed to get the better of Johan on the final lap, after a four lap contest between the two A4 drivers. Michael was however later penalised for passing Poulter under yellow flag conditions and was moved down to fifth place in the finishing order, elevating Johan back up to third. Michael was however consoled by the fact that he set the fastest lap of the race, earning himself a bonus point.

Tschops had a fairly uneventful race, crossing the finish line seventh, narrowly missing pole position for the partially reversed grid.

The top six finishers were then reversed for the start of the second sprint race, placing Johan third, Michael fourth and Tschops seventh on the grid. Johan had a good start to the race, holding onto third place before passing Poulter for second on lap three. Michael also worked his way past Poulter and into third position. The scene looked set for two podium finishes for Audi Motorsport, but this was not to be. On the final lap, Johan was seen slowing to a crawl as the field blitzed past him. An earlier bump had caused damage to the A4’s radiator and the 3.2 litre engine overheated. Johan’s demise worked to Michael’s advantage and he gladly accepted second place after again setting the fastest lap of the race.

Although Tschops was further down the field, he had a solid race and kept the BMW of Lee Thompson and Subaru of Hennie Groenewald at bay to claim sixth position.

Pitlane became a flurry of activity as the Cape crowd gathered to watch the IndyOil Audi crew replace Johan’s engine. With just minutes to spare, the team got the job done and sent Johan out to claim his pole position., based on the second fastest qualifying lap. Michael took up the fifth grid slot, with Tschops seventh.

The third and final race of the day saw double points up for grabs and following his earlier mistake, Johan was more determined than ever for a good showing and he delivered. Johan led the field from lights to flag to take the race win and set a new track record in the process.

Michael had a far more eventful race, finding himself in a challenging dice with Taylor for fourth place. In the end, discretion was the better part of valour and Michael settled for fifth.

Tschops crossed the finish line seventh and made great progress in adjusting and adapting to the Audi A4 and the pace of Bridgestone Production Cars.

The 2010 season is panning out to be a tough one with three different drivers and manufacturers sharing the weekend’s wins. Audi Motorsport have taken race victories in each of the two rounds so far and will endeavour to continue this success at Welkom’s Phakisa Freeway on 10 April.

Oh, on the Wednesday before the race meeting, Fouries's engine got changed aswell. Apparently the variety of engines helps with the differnt tracks around SA.
