Hmmmm

I guess people are struggling to reply due to the thread beeing in the wrong section. Or mite it be that your intro and welcome post is on the short side "Hi" or is it that you request help in your first post without a propper introduction. I guess its all of the above.

Welcome to the forum nonetheless.

Thread moved.

Define electrician.

You get electricians, and you get diagnostics experts,

An electrician cannot work on an X5.

What seems to be the problem.

Yes, please define the problem. I had (i hope) a problem with my E53 diesel for about two and a half years now in that the lights would go dim when the car idles, very similar to the old generators on older cars. Well, decided to do something about it and went to see an auto electrician with the necessary diagnostics equipment and asked him what the problem could be (he serviced my alternator about 30k kms ago) and he tested the alternator, found that it dipped from about 13,8 volts to about 8 volts at 600 rpms. Found it weird, to say the least and he suspected a bad connection somewhere but "you will have to leave the car with me for a few days so i can look for the problem".
I went home and took the alternator out, took it to him and he tested it on his bench tester. No problem whatsoever. I put it back in the car and then decided to start looking to see if i can find any bad connections. Well, started in the boot. Removed the spare wheel again to disconnect the battery and started searching. First had a look at the plastic box with connections bolted to the spare wheel well and they were all nice and tight. Second thing that caught my eye was the battery earth connection. Thought i would just check to see how tight the nut was as it felt fine when i pulled/wiggled it. Anyway, i found i could tighten the bolt about 360 degrees! Did that and connected the battery and it seems as if my problem is history! We tested the output on idle with lights, aircon, etc., on an no dip in power output on idle! I believe the problem was that the battery earth cable where it is bolted to the chassis was not making 100% contact.
Btw., if you have a battery drain leaving your battery discharged after about three days then it is most probably the final stage resistor in the aircon system, which is not difficult to replace and costs about R600 from Goldwagen/after market suppliers.
