I would add the cooling system (expansion tank integrity, thermostat & t-stat housing) and the aircon evaporator to the checklist. The a/c evaporator on the X3 is very prone to leaking and requires the dash to be stripped to replace.

Otherwise, the X3's are pretty solid cars.

If it was maintained well you won’t have issue BUT, after 100 000km you will replace the transfer case, I have also replaced front lower control arms and New Clutch all thru BMW all covered by extended warranty.

I am selling my Wife’s X3 now if you are interested in having a look

I picked up a 3.0i Auto - very happy so far...

Just make sure the car has FSH and all the niggles above have been sorted. e.g. my transfer case was replaced 20K km ago.. Sounds of a bad transfer car would include loud-ish whine/ bad wheel bearing sound...

Being a diesel, make sure the car was serviced REGULARLY!

Oh, if it has a sunroof, them make sure it opens and closes 'easily'... rails need to be maintained...
