BMW with comments was not disclosed

Please some advised guys

A friend bought a BMW from a dealership in Gauteng, he bought the car and was assured the car had no comments , it did not even state it the purchase documents.

Just over a year he decided to take the car for a trade in , just to see what he would get and he was told that the car has 30k worth of comments, it was pothole damaged , replaced shocks , mountings , rims tires etc at ARC.

Now obviously because of comments all dealerships will low ball him, he consulted the bmw dealership he bought the car from , and they obviously said they werent aware of it so they said they will assist him and give him full trade value on the car , which i dont think is fair because he 2 private buyers that were willing to take the car for almost full settlement value, no he can only trade his car at this specific dealership and what ever car he chooses the will load like 60k on another car

what can he do? should he go the legal route? should he get in contact with BMW SA if the dealership doesnt want to assist him further?

I personally would get BMW SA involved. Complaining is often the way to go...

Definitely let bmw sa know about it..

Otherwise tell the dealer that you not happy as xyz reasons and then see what they do..

This happened to me with a clio 4 dynamic i bought for the wife...
Car was 1 year old with 20000km.

1 year later we found out it had right rear door replaced wih non factory.. how did i find out? No inner seal.. took it to Renault and they told me.. cut the long story short we sold it at full retail less about R7.5k even though the dealer was willing to take it back at same.. i was put off.. ended up buying a new mazda cx3
. Best car I've owned so far..

I would've made extra R7.5k if private sale or more...

But not worth the head ache..

This is why i always request history from BMW myself. Is the owner not bale to get the offered price after disclosing the comments? 30k is not alot of damage personally.

Why the blanket statement? Its not like non modified car sellers disclose all issues, hence the situation above. Then there is also the issue of what is a problem for me, is something you would accept as normal because you don't know better. How many owners can differentiate the slight variations in road noise or engine noise, or check for smoke, oil leaks?

I've had a few experiences as well with BMW dealers that don't disclose comments on a used car. Easiest way around this is to take the VIN and go to another dealer to confirm - they usually don't give you the full details if you're not the owner, but at least disclose if there are comments and the value, if you ask nicely.

Never ever trust the dealer you're buying from to disclose the comments to you (unless it's someone reputable like John from LH). I've heard several excuses too when I caught dealers out, ranging from independent system bull$hit (I.e. the dealer who entered the comments can't be viewed by another dealer), to "lower level/smaller amount" of comments don't get logged on all the systems, etc.

Nope his not , l personally would not buy a bmw on comments , even if was 10k bmw and other dealers use this to there advantage when you try to trade the car in.

So BMW SA gets back and says that because the dealer acknowledges and and is willing to assist with a deal , theres nothing else they(BMW SA) can do.

i think its poor customer service.

Problem is as follow, your friend did not do due diligence, and therefore it is his problem.

CPA has obviously expired so there is no recourse.

The fact that the dealer is willing to pay you trade on a BMW is commendable, as we all know you never get trade nowadays.

Yea i think so to , he just needs to bite the bullet and go ahead with another deal.
