BMW VIN reveals next-gen M3 and M4 Coupe with 415 hp 3.0-liter inline-six

prospect

New member
A member of F30POST has recently discovered a BMW VIN which brings important details about the next-generation M3 and M4 Coupe.
Both cars are expected to get an S55 3.0-liter inline-six engine developing 415 hp (310 kW), which would be just about the same as the current M3 with its 3.0-liter inline-six multi-turbo S55 pumping out 414 hp (309 kW). However, torque figure will be increased by about 100 lb-ft (135 Nm), reaching somewhere around 395 lb-ft (535 Nm).
The new M3 is expected to go on a diet to lower its curb weight to 3,415 lbs (1,549 kg), making it considerably lighter than the M3 E90 (3,726 lbs) and the M3 E92 (3,704 lbs).
The next-generation BMW M3 will be launched late this year or in early 2014, before going on sale in June 2014, while the M4 Coupe won't be out until late 2014.

Has anyone read through the full VIN list?

If yes, have you noticed how the Euro/SA spec F30/31 320d is being re-badged as a 328d for the US market!?

Goodness, it's all about marketing these days. :bangdesk:

I am sure they also tweak the ecu for the different markets...milking more power from the 320d for the 328d?

The power figure for the 328d is listed as 135kW. Isn't that what the 320d are making? Also if it was a modified version of the 320d's powerplant I'm sure the engine spec would be listed as "N47Tu" - I could be wrong.

I really expected more from this new M3. What the hell BMW. You guys are really making me sad lately... If this is what BMW thinks their M3 customers want, its no wonder everyone is buying 335/135i and modding them... it just makes more sense.

Very sad. :thumbdo:

For this car to be a good car I think it depends on allot of factors and not just power. The chassis and suspension will be awesome I have no doubt. As to the power, yes it might be roughly the same as the current car but what if this M3 weighs 200 or more kg less than the current one. To be fair the current one is a bit fat and heavy.

I do agree with Twinz that some 335i's will still be way faster which should be a no no.

I reckon this will be like the current M5 where it wil probably make near that on the wheels, I'm us we'll see this figure go up to about 330kw.
Shall have to wait and see

I'm sure the new M3 will F off... 200kg's less makes a big difference.
It will be interesting to see what the estimated 535nm(stock) jumps to after a remap

I am far happier with the focus being placed on making the car lighter, as opposed to making it more powerful.

Hey....the X35's come out with 225kw stock, how do you guys reckon it will eat a car with 310kw without some serious mods?? And since the new //M is Boosted, SW should see it way pass 350kw easy

It will put way more power on the wheels than the outgoing M3. It's boosted so will achieve rated power at the reef, it's lighter so will be quicker, and will undoubtedly also have a trick 8 speed or similar DCT / auto box which will make it pretty lethal. I'm quite excited
