BMW software update

hi guys, been a while since i've been on but a question or a general statement that maybe someone can shed some light on. issue: we know our fuel and diesel is rubbish and hence why all 'd' motor's are detuned slightly from BMW - protection from the 500ppm stuff.

Question is, if car is out of plan would BMW not be able to revert the software to 'original Euro' settings if one is always using 50ppm (and Sasol at 10ppm i'm told)?? it should allow a decent increase in performance/economy and/or increase in service distances - in Europe the oil change is longer than petrol models..!

Official "Euro" software is also a bit restricted due to emission requirements. Also, there is no consistency - for example, early E90 330ds had 160kw locally, which was officially updated to 170kw, so it also varies from car to car.

BTW, care to shed some light on this 10ppm stuff you heard of?

And some EU countries also restrict power outputs for specific tax bands, so "Euro" software may not necessarily imply more power.

clueless buddy, but my opinion stay away from the 500ppm.
might be a little cheaper but long term damage is more expensive,

if u want performance and consumption consider a performance re-map, it increases performance and decreases fuel , little more costly but the fuel saving will pay you back, also by reference you will see the diesels love re-mapps.

cool thanks guys, yeah i always use the 50ppm and that's the issue in that the d's are detuned due to people not always having access to it. So for those of us who always use 50ppm, surely we should be 'rewarded' with the appropriate power/software settings best suited for the better quality diesel..

Oh, heard about the 10ppm from Sasol on another forum, googled it as well which validated the statement. They sell it as '50ppm' as the can't guarantee the 10ppm by time it hits the pumps, although chances are it is at Sasol garages.

Interesting, I didn't know there was 10ppm diesel.

Sasol diesel is virtually "sulphur free" because sulphur is removed very early on the diesel manufacturing process. (the sulphur damages equipment used in Sasol's unique manufacturing processes) The 50ppm label on sasol fuel is a guarantee that it will never be more than 50ppm but it is often around the 10ppm mark.

Other fuel companies buy Sasol diesel and blend it with their crude-oil derived diesel to meet the 50ppm spec. If you drive a diesel, the lowest sulphur diesel out there is definitely Sasol diesel.

The lowest sulphur Diesel is definitively BioDiesel with 0ppm sulphur content!

In PTA there are some service stations who offer BioDiesel in various mix relations i.e. 10% = B10 and so on .... up to B100

About time that more stations go that route....
