BMW SA demands surcharge to return parts

My Insurer is paying for replacement of my motor f30 320 after being water damaged in heavy rain. MotorPlan does not cover water damage. A quote of 165k was provided and agreed. Now BMWSA demands an further 11000 if I want to keep the old motor. Is this not being unethical or illicit customer treatment. It is all like corporate blackmail as the insurer who is usually entitled to keep the motor advised I may take it. Now BMW insists it equates to when you buy a new battery , you return your old else pay in a surcharge. This was not mentioned in the quote. Although 20 000 surcharge does appear on the quote. When the claim was approved then agreed telephonically to let me have The old motor. Do I pay them what i consider is really unfair practice or leave the water damaged motor and just pay them the access. I told them they suck. Any experience on this type of situation from other Bimmers which may help me or help decide.the car was 3 weeks old when the motor seized due to Hydrolock. Your experience on a similar situation would help. Thanks Faizel.

Someone on the forum had a 320d that was water damaged if I'm not mistaken, I'm sure they can advise you.

Goodluck

Good day, my F30 320d went through the same ordeal.. they are pieces of scrap aren't they? E90 was a better car! anyway yes to keep the engine you would then need to pay the surcharge as they deduct this from the final invoice.

Why do you want the old motor if I might ask? They replaced my short block - motor was a gonner, do not think it is salvagable... The old motor goes back to germany for inspection, this is part of the deal hence the surcharge.

I wish you good luck, my car was off the road for 7 weeks.
