Johannesburg. - BMW SA het Vrydag gesê sowat 3 700 motors in Suid-Afrika word geraak deur die wêreldwye herroep van 350 000 voertuie, insluitend Rolls-Royce Phantom-modelle.

Die Duitse BMW AG het Vrydag bekend gemaak hy gaan sowat 345 000 5-, 6- en 7-reeksmodelle en 5 800 Rolls-Royce Phantom-modelle herroep.

Mnr. Edward Makwana, BMW SA-woordvoerder, het gesê dié motors het foutiewe remstelsels, wat lek.

Makwana het bevestig dat geen ongelukke of beserings weens die fout aangemeld is nie.

BMW SA het gesê hy gaan kliënte vanaf Maandag begin kontak en dat ’n kliëntesentrum opgestel is.

Makwana het gesê die foutiewe voertuie is tussen Julie 2001 en November 2009 vervaardig

BMW has announced it will recall about 350 000 luxury cars worldwide because of a problem with brakes.

The recall is due to a fault with the power-braking system but the cars affected are not unsafe.

The recall affects V8 and V12 engined cars in the previous generation BMW 5 and 7 Series, the current 6 Series and Rolls-Royce built between July 2001 and November 2009.

Of the total, 3700 cars are affected in South Africa and these customers will be contacted on an individual basis to affect the repairs from as early as next week.

In the affected vehicles, a leak may develop in the power braking system, potentially causing a vacuum loss and consequent reduction of power braking assistance.

However, mechanical braking is still available to slow and stop the vehicle, and there have been no reported accidents or injuries.

BMW says the problem was identified via feedback from routine vehicle servicing and the recall is entirely voluntary.
