Bmw ownership advice

Hi all

So I ended up getting a used X2 (over the new x1 as affordability came a problem), and still own my 2015 lci 1 series (which i bought brand new back then). The latter is paid up and has oil service plan on it, so literally pay for insurance only (and fuel).
However, I work from home 80% of the time and am wondering if I should sell my 1 series.
PS. the baby seat is in the x2 so if family mobility, then I use that. But for me alone, I use the 1 series so that battery doesn't die off.

What advice on ownership of two cars can you give me?
Should I sell the 1 series, and how should I go about selling it?

Thanks

Hi there

My advice is to keep the X2 as the family car.

Sell the X1 and buy a used toy (Z4 or something else)....

Unless you have an actual remote job I would not sell the 1er. This has changed very quickly for people. Traffic around Cape Town and JHB will give you an idea of just how many people are back to normal. Even at my old place of work, people had even sold cars and bought larger houses to accommodate a “permanent” work from home situation that very quickly (and aggressively in some departments) changed.

My wife now has an actual remote job working with foreign markets (no office at all to be recalled to) and I am about to start the same sort of project. If that is the case I would look at selling the extra car and like Mr Y says get a toy maybe.

Either way

CTEK trickle charger is a necessity even if you’re using the car once every week or two. People who advise otherwise don’t have cars that are basically on electrical life support.
Annual oil change
Keep up to date on coolant and brake fluid changes (I do annual anyway)
Make sure no animals are making their way into your unused vehicle using your electrical system to nest. I have had a mate have this happen in his seemingly closed garage!

Very important point!

Naked Insurance has exclusions on rodent damage to cars while parked.

Either get a cat to stay in your garage at night. Or, there is a rodent repellant spray that you can apply to the car.
