BMW mods, what's in, what's out?

I think it's time we start a thread that offers advice about tastefull mods and how to prevent your BMW looking like just another piece of rice.

My first few:

In - Genuine BMW 18"S and blackouts (Chrome removal AKA shadowline)

In - Matt wrapping

out - Anything crystal or Altezza style on a BMW I think just does not work.

out - M badges on anything clearly stock that is not an M.

Altezza lights (also known as "Euro Taillights" and "Lexus Lights") are vehicle tail lamp clusters consisting of one or more internal lamp units, covered with a clear (or tinted) acrylic cover made popular by Lexus. Some Altezza lights also include LED lighting.

(Euro- se gat!) On a BMW Euro means replacing orange indicators with white ones.

The style was first used on the rear light clusters on the first generation Lexus IS, which was sold in Japan as the Toyota Altezza. This iconic style of lamp units became known in many circles as 'Lexus-style' or 'Altezza-style' tail lights.

Prior to the release of the Altezza, the Toyota Supra Mark IV (probably inspired by Ferrari car designs at that time ) used an encased tail lamp assembly which essentially started the trend. The Mark I Altezza gained popularity because the inside housing was finished in chrome whereas the Supra lamps came in a darker gun-metal grey color

LOL, I remember arriving at the scene of an accident involving an E36 M3errrr16i which had clipped a curb and landed on its roof! Driver and his three passengers were fine other than a few minor cuts and bruises - the M3 kit and wheels didn't make it handle like an M3, even with the lower output from the 316i!

Nice thread Rick and couldn't agree with you more. BMW owners should also give careful consideration to which rims that put on their cars as some are just plain better with the factory fitted alloys.

I love my beauty just as she is, would love to do the little boot spoiler, maybe do the chrome removal.
Do the audio/tv upgrade.
De-cat
Get the same type of tires all round.
Newer headlights (with adjusters that work)

Front lower bumper part (mine looks odd)

What is Matt wrapping?

What pisses me off is people not taking care of their bmw's
this morning I was blinded by a dude in an E36 with no proper working headlights.
Driving on permanent brights... :cursin:
I wanted to " Skiet die bliksem!!"
but pulled him over, and advised him that if I catch him again, he will be in deep... trouble.
All that was wrong the globes needed replacing. :slap:

The question for me when it comes to modding is: What is the goal/s with my car?

The answer to this determines what mods are in and what are out:thumbsup:

My goal with my 335 is to make it as fast as possible, with the available mods for the car, but also it must be distinctive on the outside as my second goal. Once i achieve this, its time to sell, move on and buy the next hot ride in the beemer stable such as the upcoming M5 twin turbo...other than this i did not buy my 335 to get from A to B...for that i would buy a Picanto:thumbsup:.....:)

E30 = No mods are in... Change the mags to 17" original bmw mags if you must.
E34 = Ac Shnitzer kit is the only thing that is in.
E36 M3 = NO MODS are in.
E39 M5 = Touch it and you fck it up
E46 M3 = CSL bootlid, diffuser, CSL mags, csl style front wings.

And that in my opinion is it.

I saw a 4 door 335i with the full motorsport kit on at the dealership a while ago.
Have you seen how neat that looks?

i have to confess. The front bumper on The POFS is a pirate part. For the rest, its al original, including the clears. Hell, i even bought original air ducts from the dealers.
