Hi guys,

Im in love with the previous shape e60 m5 especially the V10 sound!

My problem is most are out of motorplan or about to be.

Does anyone know if it will be safe to own this car out of motorplan or will it cost me an arm and a leg to maintain?

I was in between my current 550i and the M5 when I was buying at the time. When I looked at the history of the M5 just to guage what items cost, I ended up the with 550i for obvious reasons. The Gearbox was almost R120k and the SMG was around R36k. Clutch was around R15k and other items were just as ridiculous.

I would say definitely an arm and a leg, and maybe even a nut or two.

Lately you see quite a lot of E60 M5s up for sale because the owners realized how P**S expensive it is after MP expired :mmm: Don't get me wrong, I love M5s, it's just the price tag attached I don't fancy ;)

However if you want one, then go for it :) I also hear those engines need to be rebuilt once in a while or something similar (think it was on one of CyberMatrix's post)

It's the agents that make it impossible to own. Replacement parts are NOWHERE close to agent pricing.

Eg: I needed a D1S xenon bulb and those arses wanted R2900 for a damn bulb. Are they completely wacked???? Paid R400 for the exact brand elsewhere. What a bunch of tossers.

:argh: agents :argh:
they are the pits!! make it so ridiculous to enjoy your pride n joy after the mp's have expired. Thats why its so important to get to know where the real technicians operated from. All the agents do is plug in sit down and order relacement modules, never mind singular parts!
Eg: It cost me R80.00 to fix a vanos oil leak (rubber O rings on the servo's inside the unit) on one cylinder bank on my E39 M5 after being quoted not once but a number of times at various agents to replace the unit as it was not a "break downable" component at a cost of R15k for the unit!!!!!!! :bangdesk:
Thanks to EVOlution2 motorsport in Kyalami (they used to prep all the e46 Kaye Eddie group N cars and a number of privateer e46 cars back in the day. They are also the guys who have been instrumental in the restoration and rebirth of the Winfield 745i and 325is cars that are being run in some historic class currently

Just a point with the E60 M5 - anybody know why we in SA never got the manual version??? Of all places it seems as though it was only available in the USA?
