Bmw m3 (f80) or x5 (f15)

Hi guys. Just needed some general advice and thoughts.

I currently drive an m235i, however since the arrival of my little one, I've been looking at a 4 door car, alternatively an SUV.

It's hard to compare, but the m3 and the x5 3.0d m sport comes in around the same price, hence my dilemma.

Both cars will be quite fully spec'd.

Any advice or thought?

Maybe someone has both vehicles and can shed some light.

i would take the //M because its an //M..probably hold its value better & i must be honest..i have a hatch..sedan..coupe & SUV...i have 2 kids..the SUV is cool but the sedan is large enough...cars are bigger than ever & ja they are safer too nowadays. When you wake up on a sunny Saturday morning & its been a rough week...trust me...the feeling of having that //M3 parked in your garage...getting up & taking a spirited drive is going to do much more for your soul than pulling out that X5

To give a proper answer, we going to have to also know what your wife drives.
I would keep the m235 and get her a suv.
However, if you want to change the m235 then it has to be m3....x5 will keep you happy most of the time but the m3 will keep you happy every time you sit in it.

Fully agreed above. my personal situation, m3 is my ride and wife drives the Jeep. The Jeep is our family car and I love it. Even when the wife has to drive it with the kids, i can be certain about their safety too.
Choose wise or you gonna wish that X5 turns into a M everytime you look at it.

I used to have the E46 M3 and when my daughter arrived I sold it for the 335i, that lasted 18months at which point I bought the E90 M3 (4 door) and the X1, thinking that my space issues would be solved.

Then my son arrived and I needed more space so I sold the M3 for the X5M, that lasted 18 months or so again. Even with 2 kids the space was never used to its full potential. Sold the X5M and X1 for the X3 and E92 M3, now this was the best combination I have ever had.....unfortunately I had to sell the M3 when I started my business as I started traveling quite a bit.

M135i and X3 work fine for now as the kids have grown and don't demand a pram, nappies, cot etc. but the X3 is still a please to drive if I need the space. My experience was the X5M was just too big, but also that I couldn't do without an M3.

Hope this helps....

I have both cars and being a person that has also owned a M135i - I would recommend the ///M.

The SUV is super cool, easy to drive and you can take it to the zoo and navigate the curbs when you need that parking space.

The ///M takes my 2 boys comfortable without any hassles and when I put my foot down I smile uncontrollably.

F80 Comp Pack FTW!!! :inlove::inlove:

You cant go wrong with an ///M  and its plenty big enough inside for a family. So I say go for it!

I would recommend the X5.
It certainly has more space and would take all of the accessories associated with parenthood plus space left for you and your wife's stuff, should you (eventually) be able to go away for a weekend. To the best of my knowledge, an OEM towbar isn't offered on the M3 should you later realize you need more space and want to hitch a trailer.
The X5 is bit higher and loading and unloading the car seat and little one would be easier. I personally also feel safer in it than in a sedan, with its higher stance.
Should you drive it for a while and decide to sell it on privately, future owners will also be more forgiving of the inevitable scuffs and related wear and tear associated with a vehicle used for transporting a child/children and the higher than usual mileage you will put on it as a daily compared to what the average M car does annually. People shopping for an M car tend to be more fussy buyers.

You certainly won't/shouldn't :RedNo: be tempted to drive the car like you stole it with your child in the back seat. While it's no performance beast, the X5 3.0D is no slouch either. 190kW and especially the 560Nm with a 6.8 0-100 km/h are respectable figures.
You're a dad first, a hooligan second. :tiptoe:
Plenty of time left to get the M in future.

So certainly not the popular choice, but IMHO the sensible choice.
Feel free to disagree - what would the internet be without :YesNo: after all?

I am in a similar situation as you, have an E92 M3 and deciding if I should sell it for an X5. Very difficult decision between being practical and passionate.

The problem that I keep having is that every time I drive the M, everything practical just goes out the window!!
