Hi guys... I took an M3 E36 for a test drive with intention to buy. The car has 211000km on the clock. The owner has had it since 2003, its a '98 model.. it sells for R90k! Im new to BMW having driven VW's, so help me out plz.. the car is a smooth ride except for gear 3 which makes a screeching but slight noise, the engine starts on 1st kick but vibrates for less than 5 seconds while idling.... is this normal? Adawise the car was well looked after and everything else functions and is still original! he says the engine and gearbox were changed while it was under motor plan! Im not intending to use it daily as I have smaller rides for that...
IS iT A GOOD DEAL? ? ID APPRECIATE YOUR INPUT. ..

Service history, or record of work done on the car, using quality OEM parts is very important.

Also, the overall condition of the car give u an idea of how well the car was taken off. If it's tatty with loose panels and small covers missing etc.. Then you know the owner was not meticulous and probably ubused the car.

I know it's general, but it should give you some things to think about...

Post some pics for us to see

Pics. I think I know this car. The gearbox needs to come off to repair the 3rd gear synchros.

Vibration thing is normal.

That's a plus. I have looked at a few, many of these cars change hands very quickly, people trying to make a quick buck, so the owner does not even know what the service history of the car is.

Thanx for the heads up guys... its a clean immaculate car... door handles, sunroof, original tape radio plus 6cd changer at boot. Everything works perfectly fine!. the owner wasn't really selling... the service history goes up to 150000km with bmw, just waiting for a print out from beemer and receipts for work done thereafter....
