BMW Loaner Vehicle Policy

Hi everyone,

Just some background. BMW damaged my car in their workshop. Luckily photos backed up everything and they are repairing everything at their cost.

Since I will not have a car for a week they offered me a loaner car. But I have to sign the loaner policy stating I must pay up to R25 000 excess in case of any damage. Now with our roads and taxi's I feel this is a bit of a risk, therefor I think I will not take them up on the offer. I'm not sure if its able to negotiate a better deal with them?

So just out of interest, how many of you take the risk on using the loaner vehicle?

R25k excess? :skit:

Did they agree to the fact that they actually damaged your car? do you have that in writing ?

Don't take it. Does your insurance offer you a loan car? It may be better going through them.

I once took a loan car from an autobody shop and as Murphy's law would have it, I was in an accident with that car. Long story short, I paid my car's excess and R10k for the loan car excess.

This is exactly what I'm afraid of, a R5000 odd repair to my car can end up costing me R25 000 due to a rental car.

Iv never been made to sign for a loan car before...they have just given it to me. Longest i had one for was 2 weeks.
Had a 3 series F30 - wife drove it as well and then a few weeks later she bought one of her own :roflol:

I had a 116i as a loaner when my 125's engine blew.

My boss had a M2 loaner when his X5 was in for a service.

Tell them you taking the car and you not signing for the excess. They put you in the position you are in.

Ask them, if they were going to pay the excess on your car, if you had submitted a claim to your insurance company..... That will leave them scratching their heads for a bit....

When they say no, then you can say, so why should you have to pay their excess

These are the options.

I don't really understand option C, if I understood them correct I pay insurance day to day on this option.

Your insurance might cover that excess, depending on your cover.
How does that work? :skit:
I mean you have insurance for your car, then get a loan car from the dealership, how will your insurance cover the car that is not yours and that you did not insure? :fencelook:

Another view...

Jaguar Bryanston offered me an extended (weekend long) test drive in a new Jaguar XE 2.0d in January this year. I just signed a disclaimer stating that I will pay an excess of R2,500 (I cannot recall exactly, but it was around this figure and this was the maximum excess!). They scanned my credit card and handed me the keys. This took less than 5 minutes to do. This car was worth R600k+.

They were even super nice when I ended up not buying the Jag and wished me well on my 320d purchase. They even invited me to attend the E-Pace launch at Gerotek afterwards.

Jag may not make the best cars out there, but they know the value of brand building and customer retention.

Insurance will more than likely ask for the details of the loaner car and then ask that you add the car on for a month.

Tried my best to negotiate a better deal, but they wouldn't budge.

I cant seem to find this agreement anywhere on the internet, I wonder if it is dealer specific?

I've had an M6 loaner (when my car was in for mechanical work that would take longer than a week) and insured it temporarily... even though it was a much smaller excess than 25K that JSN offered me. Brokers make it easier.
