Spectacular looking car, though it does look a bit "Fisher-Price" if you know what i mean...

Ok so I took the USA pricing and compared it to the local pricing of the following models: 135i Coupe, 335i Sedan, 535i Sedan, 740i and 640i Vert.

I averaged the exchange difference between them, and got an figureof 12.72.

With the MSRP of the i8 being set at $135'925 and taking the above into account, it puts the local price at R1'729'956. Would love to see how close this is to the actual local pricing when it is released.

Just some food for though.

Beautiful car... but only 266kw and 570 nm torque...

BMW... dafuq bro!?!

Have you seen Merc's electric car.... IT DESTROYS everything. The SLS AMG electric drive.

Mercedes-SLS-Electric-Drive.jpg

The numbers for the AMG electric car - 4WD, 740bhp, 738lb ft, 0g/km CO2, 0-62mph in 3.9secs, 155mph, 155-mile range, 3hr fast charge, 2110kg

Am I being doff and missing something here???

i8 = $135,925. The SLS will be $550,000, the Porsche 918 will be $845,000.

The Audi e-tron (electric R8) won't even be built anymore.

What is important to take note of, the i8 makes 170kW and 320Nm from a 1.5 3-cyl, which is modular and can be used for other models. That's E46 330i power from a turbo 1.5 3-cyl that apparently sounds like a Porsche Carrera...

SLS: 4WD, 740bhp, 738lb ft, 0g/km CO2, 0-62mph in 3.9secs, 155mph, 155-mile range, 3hr fast charge, 2110kg

i8: 4WD, 362bhp, 420lb ft, 0g/km CO2, 0-62mph in 4.4secs, 155mph, 310-mile range, 1.5hr fast charge, 1490kg

The i8 has got it beat. So the SLS has all that extra power and torque and only does 0.5 of a second better to 100?

Plus, the SLS has been seen before, it's old hat, the i8 design is unlike anything else on the road, probably the only truly futuristic design on a production car at the moment

i8 FTW

Its a good idea in theory, but we all motoring fans, so I'm not sure how a 1.5L 3 cylinder motor in a car costing R1.5mill+ is going to stir the soul, sound, rev etc

I mean thats what a super car should do, stir the soul. I dont think it will offer the traditional audio soundtrack that most associate with these types of cars. I mean this is BMWs first super car-ish type vehicle since the M1, surely it should have some traditional appeal as well.

To me the tech seems too far away to be viable for this type of vehicle. People want the full monty, when it comes to supercars, the look, the sound, the performance, etc. I doubt fuel spend is an issue, when one is buying this far up the market? I mean who would jump into this and say, "Jeff, I get 500kms per litre of fuel". These cars are meant to be driven and the awesomeness comes from the way they go and corner, how fast they are and never about how much fuel is being used.

It is a good idea in theory, but not sure how it will work out in practice.....time will tell in the market place and who will buy it

I prefer this instead, it has a V8 twin turbo with abt 400kw combined with an electric motor of about 110kw combined output abt 515kw and massive torque. It is heavy at 1800kgs, but rockets to 100km/h in 3.7secs with decent fuel consumption. I'm not sure what BMW want to achieve in the supercar market, with i8 with a 3 cyclinder motorcycle engine, lol, can they just slap in a proper motor. As it stands it, it just seems very underwhelming like a tin can with a motorcycle engine and a massive price tag.
