BMW Holiday Check and On Call

So I had my car holiday check done , twice , both holidays , and All was well .

This afternoon Stopped the car , Went into the shop for a few mins , came out started it and wow , No brakes , Non what so ever . Switched it off , started again and nothing .

This was the first time in the cars history that its left me stuck. Wondering if I should call the AA , I decided , let me try out my holiday check, Called them on the number provided ,
They first sent over a BMW on call car , guy checked it out , said there is definitely something wrong with the brakes , Then they sent out a tow truck , and the car was towed to BMW .

There after BMW called me again to make sure I was safe and everything had been sorted .

Im so impressed :) And sooo thankful for this service from BMW! And it didn't cost me a thing !

Sigh sadly now my cars issue , Will hopefully know by tomorrow whats wrong with it ... If only The holiday check included a motor plan haha . I did notice though that the brakes did come back ( not as good though) when I was reversing it off the tow truck and off and when I drove it towards the service area. It was very confusing . Funny enough the car drove and braked perfectly before i switched it off. I have no Idea what it could be.

It was such a painless experience .

How 'hard' were you driving before stopping?

Not hard at all , at most 120 on the highway, no hard braking or anything at all,
They flush the system, there were no leaks but found that there was air in the system .

So I wasn't sure If I should start a new thread or just continue this , Anyway I have decided to continue this here as it already has the background .

Anyway , this past 2 weeks my braking issue has popped up again , This time what was happening was when I start the car in the morning , the brakes were hard as rock , Felt like the pedal was stuck , I could press the brake pedal , and gradually stop the car but it was extremely tough .

Once running after a few seconds, the car was back to normal . Brakes operated fine the rest of the day .

Now this problem has been gradually getting worst as the days go by. When ever I park the car or switch it of for a few minuts , the issue pops up , It has also occured a few times while driving , One second the brakes are fine , the next hard as rock and very difficult to stop.

I took the car to BMW for advice last week when it wasn't so bad ( Did not book it in )

They had told me , that it could be the brake booster failing , or the ASC, ABS or whatever that is unit ( The black round piece with the square silver block attached to many pipes)

Yesterday , I decided to "test" the booster, The black valve that goes into the booster and check all those pipes .

No cracked or damaged pipes , The valve seems to work properly , and to test the booster , I pressed my foot on the pedal , Started the car , and the pedal does go down , ever so slightly . I was told and read on many other sites that this would indicate that the boosted is fine .

So yesterday , I visited BMW again , with new information . The tech , advised me to check the Vacuum pump . As everything indicates that its looking vacuum pressure when idle or switched off . And as the car moves its building up said pressure and loosing it .

He said that If the pump is fine , then it has to be one of the two , Booster or that other unit . If that is the case ( And I hope its not) I would rather book it in and have them replace it . but its sooo expensive :blueCry:

Anyway This evening , I checked the pump for leaks , and there are no leaks , its as dry as can be .

The tech also advised me to purchase the seal repair kit and remove the pump off the car and test it . I have two pumps at home , One that I had removed previously from the car ( Its original pump ) and the pump thats on the car .

The original pump was leaking oil ( at the pipe attachment piece), that's why I replaced it with this one .

I have both pumps stripped now on my bedroom floor . Both show no wear or damage . The original pump seems to have a valve at the top . When you blow into it , air flows freely , when you suck in , air stops .

On the pump that's in the car , when you blow in to it , air moves freely , when you suck in air moves freely .

Could this be the cause of my brake issue? Could the valve on the vacuum pump have failed? This would cause a lack of pressure in the system wouldn't it? Would that also indicate that the small black valve that attaches to the booster be weak?

I really hope it isn't the booster or that silver square unit:(
