I have to ask.. When you refer to bad turbo lag.. Which mode do you drive the car in? I have not had bad lag on any of the 4 F Chassis we have owned so far? Even from low RPMs.

Even in Sport+ there isn't much boost in 1st and not too bad in 2nd. My lame man's prediction is that it was deliberate due to the car being targeted for a luxury family saloon.

A mate of mine with a 750i (n63 motor) shares the same experience.

Thanks for the reply, interesting indeed! It could be to avoid too much torque to the drivetrain as well? I have not driven any of the bigger saloons myself though.

I had an interesting experience recently, maybe opening up a can of worms, but I was not too happy with the 335i's response either, actually it felt too aggressive in 1/2 - the opposite, especially in traffic.. I followed the in-car adaptation reset procedure and drove decently for a while, everything feels smooth as silk again.. Until I hit Sport+ DS again.. Not sure if you tried this before? :=):

But it is better not to overload the torque converters on launch anyway in my opinion.

Again beautiful car you have here, the changes are already making her quite the looker! :clapper:

Thanks bud...

I 'reset' the adaptation based on the 60 second accelerator depress, etc and still the same. Some forum threads talk of a clicking sound which ought to be heard, but I hear nothing at all.

So I have decided to add some detail and pics of what I have done on the car since I purchased. From the original pics I posted, I neglected to mention that the rear bumper was all white and I had the bottom section wrapped in a piano black vinyl.

I changed the DPs to 76mm 304 SS after deciding not to use the OEM M5 DPs which were given to me by a generous forumite (Neo) as the inner diameter wasn't as large as it appeared to be. The outer sleeves on the M5 DPs created a perception of a large diameter, which it wasn't, hence the decision to go with aftermarket DPs.

I had the DPs done at Powerflow in Randburg because I trust no one else on my cars. Sanjeev (owner) still very hands on until today which brings added comfort.

Pic of unfinished DP:

After hearing the exhaust tone, I expected a bit more volume, which there wasn't, so I opted to remove the rear mufflers. OMFW, the car was just wayyy too loud for a daily, so needless to say, I asked Sanjeev to find suitable resonators to add to the system, which was also finished off with 90mm quad tailpieces.

Resonators which were fitted:

Car sounded awesome on startup and had a good 8 cylinder tone to it. That sound was unfortunately shortly lived. The drone was simply too much and with my car having an 8 speed box, I was in peak drone zone at cruising speeds, so it had to change.

This is what is sounded like:

As much as I loved the tone & volume, it just didn't make sense for my requirements. Sanjeev, as always, ensured that I was happy with end product. He was happy to replace the resonators with free flow silencers at no additional cost even though this only materialised a few months later.

I had replaced with a fairly large box as I had no spare time for trial and error.

I was very happy with the lack of drone and a proper sounding V8 even though turbocharged but it unfortunately came at a price. I lost a significant amount of volume but I couldn't have my bread buttered on both sides. I was happy with the way the car felt as the resonators also created some additional roughness which I was happy to get rid of since I didn't want to ruin a luxury vehicle altogether LOL.

This is how the car sounded with the larger silencers:

In the middle of all this exhaust tunes, I decided to lower the ride height and purchased a set of H&R springs from Sean (AXIS) which was fitted at Koni SA. Upon removal of the old shocks, it was clearly evident that the OEM shocks had its days and required replacement. Fortunately Ashley from Koni in Boksburg had a set of Koni Sports in stock for my car. I was thrilled because the 550i is always a mission with it being a fairly rare choice.

This is what it looked like:

Handling was drastically improved and the F10 was starting to feel close to my E60 550i handling which I missed dearly. Having said that, my E60 was running on Koni FSDs which are phenomenal.

Some pics after the drop. The right rear for some odd reason sits with quite some gap but this was the extremely bad before the drop so I have chosen to live with it.

Decided to wrap the boot spoiler in black vinyl too. No idea why I didn't get it done at the same time that I did the bumper LOL

After a short while I decided to look at software options. The JB4 pricing was out of budget by a long shot and after looking at other alternatives, I opted to purchase a DTE plug and play unit which was less than half the cost. Also comes with many maps to toggle between.

This is my only dyno which was done on the car. Never bothered with a before run as I am all about the way it feels for me as an individual, rather than to chase numbers. There was no intent to dyno at the dyno event but peer pressure is a bad thing LOL. So naturally I was on pump fuel and with a car which was going into limp mode for reasons I was still trying to determine. It turned out to be a lose wire in the harness of my DTE device which was repaired at not cost from the support team in CPT. Great service.

I was very happy with the numbers and as you can see, the torque creates lotsa fun factor in this car for me. Would like to try some eth and octane boost someday too :)

Soooo, I got the itch again a few weeks ago and wanted some added volume to the exhaust LOL. This was all Richard H's fault (forum member) who offered me modified OEM M5 rear mufflers at the dyno day - :smilebounce:

Richard even delivered them to me at my workplace and I have to mention that these boxes were still in perfect condition with the vacuum valves, hangers, etc. Off to Powerflow again and I fitted these boxes with no hesitation as I couldn't wait to hear them. OMFW, I loved it the moment it started up. Loud AF but still with some good solid tone.

Treated myself to some unusual Akra tails (burnt Titanium) which was the most expensive part of my visit but I absolutely love them :inlove: (sorry for dark pic).
