Hi All, I have purchased the above car but I am flying up to JHB from CPT this weekend to go and collect and drive down to CPT. Just wanted to know how are these cars on the long road, what should I expect on a full tank. Im scared I go to far and then the next petrol garage is to far away and i get stuck, lol.....I have never done this road trip and i am extremely excited to do it, but i dont know this route.

Fuel Economy - Do you really care?

Just fill up every garage you get. The route is well planned. There's plenty filling stations along the way.

Just enjoy the car... Just know this... If it's your first time, IT'S LONGER than you imagine it to be!! :roflol:

Done that route 3 times... I tend to buy my cars in Cape Town.

Enjoy and drive safely!

Recently did this trip with my E36 328i

Averaged around 9L per 100km

There are plenty of petrol stations on the way.

Lol you will not get stuck, i did a trip with a 335i e92 to cpt from pta and back and driving at a speed of 150 - 180km/h. I was getting about +-485kms on a tank. On the trip back i filled up in cpt then at beaufort west, coalsberg and bloemfontein.

That's the way I went.

JHB->Colesberg->Bloemfontein->Beaufortwest->Worcester->CPT

Can honestly say the condition of the roads are actually good.

I did the drive last December. You get about 500km off a tank on average. Its a great drive. You can do it in a day, but the last few hours are a struggle. I normally stop at Beaufort West for the night, then I enjoy the final 450km a lot more.
These cars are sooooooooo nice on the open road, overtaking is pure joy. The roads are great too and I've never had problems other than speeding fines.
Enjoy it!

Leave Joburg with a full tank. Fill in Bloem. Fill in Colesburg. Fill in Beaufort West. You should be pretty safe then.

Meanwhile with the 530d it would be more like. Leave Joburg with a full tank. Fill up in Beaufort West :roflol:

I left from cape town at 2pm and got to PTA at 12:50am. 2 stops of 30 minutes each for food and fuel and 1 stop was just fuel. speed of 150 to 180km/h. Nice drive, roads are good. I would say I was tired the last 50kms but considering it was new years day with hardly much sleep the night before it wasn't too bad.

Drove my dads E92 335i to South Coast shelly beach, I am used to always getting there on one tank of fuel in all the cars I have driven there in....Not the 335 lol...I would say the consumption is pretty shit to be honest, at the same time though it is an auto and they do tend to drink compared to the manual.

My 330d when it was auto used to average in town 8.5 - 11/100 depending on how I drove, that reading is pretty inaccurate though as its quite easy to fool it, however I would get roughly 550 - 680km per full tank.

Once I converted it to a manual the reading it gave me was 4.5 - 6.5l/100 in town driving and just under 900km to a full tank and I think I got over 900km to a full tank once. So that just goes to show how much lighter a manual is over the auto.....we are talking old style automatics though, however the older E92 335i still used the older style auto boxes so the consumption is still pretty shit to say the least.

You didn't buy the car for its economy. Personally I prefer using the N12 as apposed to the N1. Much better road, not so busy, and not so many cops along the way.

There is enough filling stations along your way. Enjoy the trip and drive safely.
