Hi guys....i have a 2005 BMW E90 320i...car was working fine the whole day...went to the mall with family...after about 3 hours or so..all got back in car...inserted the fob key...all the bells and whistles light up.....pushed the start engine button...and there was a slight humming noise..and car refuses to start.....started the procedure again...and car still refuses to start...just silence...but everything else works...the clocks needles work..but will not even crank...had to get the car towed home...
Any ideas would be appreciated.. .oh..car has a 652 power rated battery inside that's about 5 months old...

Why was the battery replaced 5 months ago?

Possibly something draining battery and might have killed the last battery you had?
Or maybe this new battery is also dead, babies also die!

To me sound like the battery doesn't have the juice to turn the starter.

Just my 2c.

Good luck, hope you get it working again!

I changed the battery cos the original battery in the car was damaged...car was standing in the open for 2 years...without being moved or started...so I put a new battery in the car when I got it...i tried to get the car boosted from another ...bit it disnt even swing or crank...still the same silence...

Hmmm, it might be that the actual starter has failed. It's not an uncommon failure on N46 engines. Thing is, the car stood for two years. Ideally, the car would need to be checked out properly as there might be a few other issues at play here as well. It's recommend to replace all fluids in a car if it wasn't running for such a long time, especially if it was standing outside in the elements.

Your only real course of action would be to get the car to a trusted mechanic to have a look.

where did you connect the jumper cables?

I connected them in the front...not by the battery in the boot...is that wrong???

The starter on my 2005 e90 320d has failed spontaneously before, so it's not impossible. Driven during the day then parked at home for an hour then simply not starting or even cranking. I would suggest getting it scanned for errors?

Eish could be a few things..

Fuel pump?
Starter Motor?
Vrot battery?
or the dreaded valvetronic motor :RedNo:

whats the progress? did you get it scanned for any errors?

i had this same issue on my E90 335.

was still driving. switch off and when i wanted to leave home again, nada.

everything comes on. pump pings etc. JB4 couldnt pick anything up.
got it towed to a workshop. was my starter. after doing some research it was found that due to the position of the starter - its a common fault, specially on the E90's that the starter will just fail without any signs... :RedNo::blueCry:

for the e90 models, as far as i know you need to use a tool like INPA to register that you have a new battery placed into the car, or it will keep in memory that you have an old battery and fade out the rate of charge...

this could be causing the issue currently that the battery is not charging optimally
