I could sell you mines for 350k if you want.
mileage is 125000, bearings were done in 2015 .

I did see yours on sale on the forum,my challenge is that I needed to get rid of Golf GTI I bought in December.

Its definitely good looking but I am not a fan of convertibles.

One needs to be full of oneself to make that statement given the car that is being sold.

New crank is R40k
A gasket set is R25k.
Once those engines knock the crank gets bent and the conrod needs to be changed.
Sometimes the crank saddles in the block get damaged and there is no way to fix them.

A secondhand engine is R130k

Walk away and let him keep his problem.

I have already decided I am walking away, there's one on sale on the forum with bearing maintenance done, its worth looking at Although price wise it's out of my budget a bit

Dont even think about it.

my engine started knocking on my E92, and it was no where near 60 - 90k
to fix as stated in the thread.

Second hand engine is 130k , and then theres no telling the bearings wont go on that in the next few months either.

Walk away bro. Especially at that price. I got a few offers around R180k for mine with the knock just as a FYI

OP when purchasing one... factor in the 30 odd to do bearings if it hasn't been done...unfortunately there is very little chance of neg this amount off the asking price. Personally i would buy one that recently had it done & then treat her well when cold & do more frequent oil changes...

I thought it was the white one advertised a while back. Petrol price is really a pain right now

Dear Fanatics,

would you advise one to even consider this?

https://www.gumtree.co.za/a-cars-ba...an-4-door-m-dynamic/1002444164970911268723809

Been looking for E46 M3 ever since I sold my 2008 E90 M3 then I came across this . I wonder if it's worth considering and what sort of cost one is looking at to sort out the beariing know issue.

Hi

i saw this M3 for sale https://www.bmwfanatics.co.za/showthread.php?tid=83671, its worth checking out

Thanks, I will give this one a try.

225k for car

60-90k worse case scenario to fix/replace motor including labour

285- 315k for running car besides for what other mechanical issues you might find on the way, iv seen e90 m3s sell lately for 08 models around the 300-320k mark some of them with bearings already replaced as maintenance measures

It costs alot more than that to fix one of these... It isn't a pre-emptive bearing change and care package. You will also potentially have metal filings in places that you can't afford to have them depending on who does the work and how thorough they are

I say walk away

LOL this line alone should be enough to ward off any serious buyer. Too many ads like this... Unfortunately fools and their money are soon parted and some dude who genuinely believes he is getting a bargain will find himself with a 150K+ bill. I think the seller will actually find someone to buy that car...

Strange... how guys will moan about spending 300K on a good running car and 30K-40K for predictable preventative maintenance but will take a chance on a 220K car and embark on a 200K journey of discovery... only to hate BMW and mechanics at the end of it... I am sure you see this in the E36 and E46 communities as well Peter

You want to buy an M3, with a bearing knock, conditional to selling your GTI, you bought 6 months ago?

I'm not sure what your thought process is like, let me give you some sound advice. No. Just no.
