Hi Guys,

My glove box has seized to open, just before this happened i had to force back the lever to "clip" back in and now it simply does not want to open!! is there a manual override or some kind of back up opening for me to get it open and inspect lock

Thanks in advance guys.

Hi,

The only way to get it open, is to remove it completely.

Backbreaking work as you need to lie down on the floor and unscrew the hinges from the rail at the bottom of the glove box. Be sure to catch it as it will swing open from the bottom. If I remembered correctly, the struggle was to have the pins at the top move back towards the center of the clove box in order to be released from the dash.

Basically when you pull the handle, 2 pins slide back inwards towards the center, thus being released from the holes in your dash to open. The inside plastic arm from the shaft pins broke (either 1 or both) and thus is not connected to the handle mechanism anymore so it can't move the pin back to be released from the dash. This is where you would need to take a flat screwdriver and try to move it back manually in order to get released from the dash.

Another stupid thing is that it is not a repairable unit (the handle part) the entire outer skin of the glove box needs to be removed in order to gain access to the handle mechanism and to try and fix it. some rubber band and plastic welding did the trick, but with mine the center shaft of the handle broke off , so I had to drill a hole through to the inside of the glove box, put in a bolt and nut in order to have the handle ring rotate around the bolt to pull the lever arms back as you lift the handle.

then the outer skin had to be glued back together with the inner part.

Sorry for the long post... I was unable to find a good second hand glove box and most scrapyards don't want to sell them separately from the dashboard unit.

Good luck with either options, Seriously hope you come right asap.
