Bmw E83 X3 Relaiblility

Good day guys



I am in the market for an E83 X3.I have been advised that these cars have a problem with the Timing chain snapping.particularaly the N47.



However I have read that the N47T came with slightly updated Timing chain components making less likely to fail.



Did the X3's that came out in 2010 have the N47T engine ?



How relaible is the E83 ? Should one opt for Manual or Auto ?

Yes the N47 has timing chain issues its a Russian Roulette game with with all 4 chambers loaded, I'd personally avoid it with high mileage rather if you want a diesel consider the M57 3.0d engine with Auto those are reliable and strong no need to even tune them budget for normal high milage diesel issues though coz diesels in my opinion are best bought when new.

Can also consider the 3.0L petrol versions. Should have the M54B30 and maybe N52B30 if it was facelift but I suspect you will get the M54.

Basically avoid the 2.0L petrol engine.

I could be wrong, but I somehow doubt the 2010 X3 came with the N47t / N47n engine.
You can always grab the VIN and check online.

I think you may only find the N47t in the F25 X3.
