BMW E82 Interior leak

Morning everyone,

With all the rain in Cape Town the last while my car started smelling like a wet dog on the inside. I initially thought it was just the carpet from getting in and out of the car, but there is definitely water coming in from somewhere.

My first thoughts was that it is the sunroof, but the areas around it is completely dry.

Is there any known areas where I can start searching for a leak, or anyone you could recommend in the Cape Town area that would be able to help or fix the problem?

Thanks in advance!

If it's in the footwells then it's possibly that you gutters are blocked from leaves etc. Open the bonnet and check by the hinge where the fender meets. Usually leaves pile up in there.

I'm having the exact same problem after the recent rains and my car standing outside for almost two weeks without being driven.

I have a feeling mine is due to the vapour barrier/sound insulation coming loose.

Remove your door card and check the condition of your insulation. There's an instructional video on youtube of how to do it.

:withStu: Very common - those holes are small and block very easy
