BMW E60 Professional Navigation

I meant to ask this question a while back but forgot. It has recently started annoying me properly, again!!!

I have searched the web and all the responses were pretty much the same and somewhat inconclusive. So the question is:

How the hell does one make use of coordinate values to get to a destination?

I have a 2006 model which is pre LCI. Uncertain as to whether this was made available later with a possible revision.

Any idea whether it is possible to update my current system so that it can work as a normal sensible GPS? I have been all over the navigation options and don't see anything that can accept coordinates. Am I perhaps checking miss or is this not possible?

Thanks guys! :thumb:

Who needs navigation?

Good thing you don't have the e60 M5, that's even more complicated.

I assumed that it is the same navigation, if Professional of course.

Thanks Whacko - I will play around with this and see if somewhere within it allows for entering coordinates when looking for directions as this is primarily what I am after.

It is interesting what you can find in the hidden menu's, but in the end you can "upgrade" to Garmin. The prof nav in my opinion is everything but professional.

Can't disagree with you there. With no limitation on size like the portable devices have, the Pro Nav sucks!!

Is this for the 5 series only or something? Cant get that hidden menu to show :yuck:

Maybe, but try Google "bmw e90 idrive hidden menu" search, I'm sure you're bound to get some info. What beats me, is how it was discovered looking at the sequence to get there, unless it leaked from the bmw techi's.

Items like this are often leaks...

So I get to the hidden items but it is purely informational. Still don't know how or where to enter coordinates for a destination.

What is quite cool is the true GPS speed though. Abmi, I think the best would be the Garmin upgrade, I can't find anything either.

So I checked my speedo this morning versus the GPS real time speed and it is significantly different to what I get on the Garmin.

I knew that when I upgraded to 20" wheels, the error would be less or slightly under read in the car. I generally have about a 2-3km/h variance on the Garmin with my car under reading so I can no longer set the cruise control to 130km/h as I would naturally be over.

According to the car's navigation, at 100-120km/h I am in average of 10km/h out which means that I am often over the speed limit. I get fines but marginally over the limit.

Whacko, what is it for you in comparison?

I get maybe two to three k's variance between the garmin and the beemer, but the galaxy s2 and the beemer are almost identical. I think it might be the sample time and updates to speed, the garmin seems to be more responsive to speed variance. On 319 the heads up displayed 345, the garmin read 323 and the beemer and galaxy both showed 319. On 120 I get 118 on the beemer nav display.

Brag gat :tease:

I will check again this afternoon when going home as the roads are quiter. Will see if it takes a few seconds longer to iron itself out. :thumb:

Sorry Abmi, didn't mean to brag :flyfun: its just an example of error progressiveness as the speed increases. It's huge over read at high speed.
