BMW E36 318is Powersteering

Hi All
I need your help
I have a BMW E36 318IS 1997 model
When a turn left while driving there is a loud whining noise from the engine
I am sure its the powersteering pump
I have checked the oil level and its full,and also no leaks whatsoever

Is there a way the check the pump?
Will a fluid flush help perhaps?:dunno:

on my old ladies E46, we have a constant whine, and when we turn left or right the whining gets louder, BMW as well as a non BMW mackie said the same thing, pump F@#ked, get new one!!!

Left turn only ?
With engine running and car standing turn steering wheel to left lock and keep it there for a few seconds and then turn to right lock for a few seconds and return to centre .This normally clears out air in system.

The pump is gone!
Does anyone know where i can get a pump for a 318is E36 1997 model
Will the 325 of 328 pump work on my car?:thinking:

IMHO pumps are the same unit , mounting brackets may differ though .

Also, any good hydraulic shop can recon your current pump... do some googling.

Will be going pump hunting in Cape Town this weekend!

I phoned Motorem. They don't have any in stock at the moment.

Leon did you check realoem for compatibility of pumps on different models , my E30 and E36 325 are similar only brackets differ , so maybe even 318i e30 may work .
In East London we have maybe six scrapyards worth trying !!!!

Please check for a dent in one of the p/s hoses next to the steering rack, could be the reason sins only noisy to left

Well been searching everywhere for a pump
Did a fluid flush this week,the oil was very bad!
Flush it a few times,put in the new fresh oil and then there was silence!!:clap:
Very happy that that is sorted and only cost me R150-00 for the oil!

Now that everything is sorted i found 2 pumps in 2 days!!just my luck!

Feel like a idiot now that only a oil change fixed the problem!:hammerhead:
