BMW diagnostic equipment

As the topic says, does any Kzn members have diagnostic equipment, inpa or carsoft or even a launch handheld to read codes...it's always a handy tool to have around and I don't see the point of going to a mech, waiting 3 hours and paying R 200 plus just for plug in... :thumbdo:

So rather make member rich to buy goodies for his car...

afaik the post '96 (or so) e36 is obd2 and has the connector under the dash, but im not sure how the euro-spec models came. like i said mine is obd1 so i cant confirm. my last e36 328 was obd2 but i knew nothing about engine management that time so i never noticed lol.

well, if it can read and clear errors and reset service intervals, it would be perfect. Are there different ones that do different things?

I bought a really nice hand held scanner on eBay for around R1000 - this one is one oy very few that reads the OBD protocols as well as VAG (VW and Audi) It also has manafacturer specific codes and reads transmission module as well.

You can also use your iPhone to perform OBD functions with the correct interface (about R800)

Scanners generally cannot reset airbag lights or service lights (easily done via cluster)

I have ordered a GT1 clone (cable plus software - runs on VMWARE) this can recode and activate components -will let you guys know how it pans out

Hey! Guys

I'm looking to get a diagnostic tool as well. Was also thinking of the GT1 clone or other similar ones. Any updates on the above posts. Hoping to buy it here in KZN (I'm paranoid about online purchases).:flyfun:
