Fellow Fanatics, with the M3 nearing completion I have come across this little old lady, do any one know anymore about these BMW's (any more than I can read on google?)

I know that this was the first "real car" after the Isetta, however what more do you guys know?

Is this a "true" BMW?

:ty:

Here comes some pics of a good one, apparently they followed on from the Isetta and run a 700cc motorcycle engine, some refers to them as micro cars!

I hadn't heard of them either, until i went to look at one, nice little project, just want some more info?

Pics off the net as Promised:

Cortina Opel BMW I suppose all period specific cars and trends of the day followed?

Small rant, what is the point of advertising something and then not answering your phone, email or SMS?

What is the point? Happened three times now?

The 700 came in 1959 powered by a rear mounted bmw motorcyle engine, but this time looking like a real car thanks to handsome three box styling by Italian consultant Michelotti. It sold well but didn't bring bmw the big numbers they were hoping for.

BMW almost merged with Daimler-Benz in that era! Thanks to shareholders disagreeing to this and the financial backing of the Quandt family, over 180 000 of these cars were made over the next 5 years!

This car brought BMW out of a financial distress! After its success, the New Class cars were introduced (1602, 1800, 2002s, 1500s, 3.0, CS etc) and from there the 3, 5, 6 and 7 series!

Herbert Quandt really made a great choice by investing in BMW! Today, his children own a large share of BMW still IIRC.

The 700 is a special part of BMW history! There are some that show up at motorshows in SA.
