BMW 635 CSI

Hi Trevor

As being in the same boat for many years. The one at Hamptons was one of the first ones I looked at... I ended up getting a fixer up er 6 years later. So be aware of the task ahead. Unfortunately not many made it here. They fell into the category of cheap car bought only by people who couldn't maintain them.

They do not come up very often. And when they do they are rotten.

Especially if you have your heart set on a facelift manual.

Thank you for this.

I do not want to buy a fixer upper if I can help it at all.

What car do you actually have?

Are you referring to the same car that Hamptons have for sale right now?

And my first choice would be a facelift auto, but I will be very happy with a manual as well.

Many thanks.

I since sold my 85 Manual to scunick who ripped it appart and put a V8 in.

I looked at the one at Hamptons 6 years ago when it was in the Cape.

Thank you and that sounds criminal to me!

I think it is so important to keep the classics as original as possible.

The facelift was not officially available in ZA, making them quite rare. There are only a few that were personal imports (I guess). If you are feeling brave, you could do that as well.

Even in the UK, sharks are kinda rare. Autotrader's UK site only has two at the moment. Here is a car for GBP2690.

I have no idea about what shipping, insurance, taxes, etc. will be. Or even if it is doable.

PS: The UK website insists on a postal code before it will do a search. I used WC2N 5RJ which in London somewhere.

Thank you for all of this.

There are a couple of companies in SA that do this, but unless I selected the car personally and then had it inspected by a BMW specialist, I would not even venture to go there.
It's just too much time, effort and money and unless it was for a one of a kind car it's just not worth it.

I will wait for a car in SA and will have to be patient, which unfortunately is not my strong suit!

I've done it Maljan. Check my build thread out. Would I recommended it? No.

Thank you. I am reading your thread now and no way would I even contemplate this.
Do you still own and have the car in SA?

...and this one looks like it needs a whole lot of work as well.

I can pretty much guarantee that you will come to the conclusion that picking up a pristine example in SA will require trying to pry it out the hands of a very enthusiastic owner.

The most direct route to a pristine example will be to go through a dealer like Munch Legends or 4 Star Cars in the UK. Pay for your nose for what will be guaranteed to be a good car then jump the hoops for import.

Ag nee!! Thank you for the bad news and uplifting information.
I am not short of cars in my collection and I will just have to be patient and wait it out I guess.

Its not all bad. Munich Legends recently had a pretty good low miler for 4500pound. Add import and shipping and you still come to less than people want for some of teh POS floating around.

Thank you and I will go onto the websites later to have a look.

I went to look drive the car at Hamptons on the weekend and was very underwhelmed by it.
I am certainly looking for a car that is in considerably better overall condition and hopefully with a lot less Kilo's and w+t on it.

The only other prime example is Paul C's car, I think you did make a turn by him. I dont think his wife will let him sell it. A pristine early model, low km's Henna with cream leather. Its a concours winner and in my opinion one of the best, if not thee best one in the country.

Paul's shark is without a doubt mint

Unfortunately his wife is winning out in the end!
Please keep the search on for me- much appreciated!

...and very philosophical and pretty accurate as well!

There have also been no 635 CSI's for sale on any of the regular sites for quite a while now.
The drought she continues...

I am busy with a black one at the moment and will be posting pics shortly.

Started life as a 635csiA and will finish up as an M635 with electric seats and an M88 motor and M suspension etc etc.

It might come up for sale.......
