Before you u start looking for new DME/computer boxes or fearing the worst, breath in, breath in, breath out, calm down.. its something small.
things that it could be, but probably is not is the fuel pump, if no fuel is reaching the front, then it wont start.
Second, more likely, but probably not, is the crank sensor, that will not damage from an overcurrent, which is likely what caused your issues.
Much more likely, I am willing to bet money on this, is that you popped one of the fuses that powers the computer box.
If you have a multi-meter, or a test light. do the following
In the top right (the side closest to the steering wheel) you will see your red charging point,
Attached to that gizmo, same block of plastic, there is a smaller cable that runs from the right to the left of the engine bay, cable is about as thick as your pinky.
Check for 12v there.
If not, then go to the back of the car in the RHS of the boot, start checking for popped fuses, you can do this simply with a test light (R20 at your local hardware shop)
Basically its a simple little test light, you attach it to negative, it has a sharp point, when it has power on it, it lights up.
So you check each fuse, one by one, on the actual fuse, you will see that there are two pins exposed on the fuse itself, check if it has power at the top and at the bottom. check them all.
If you do have power to that thinner cable.
In the top left, you have the DME control box, or as its called the E-Box..
In there, check the fuses as well..

If you can wait till late next week when im back from leave, I can sort it out for you, but diesels do not break... not like this...
I highly doubt you popped the DME as well...
