Hi All,

I recently purchased a E90 330i as a daily ride. It needs a service and a few minor things done. Im looking for a mechanic whom is mobile and can do the work at my premises. Any recommendations?

So you need a breakdown mechanic? Isn't the car running then?
If you want someone decent then you need to take the car to the workshop, not the other way round.

No The car is pristine. It needs a service. I'd prefer a mechanic to come out. Just a personal preference so I can be sure of the work done.

How do you expect a mechanic to be able to work to the best of his ability if he doesn't have all of his equipment/workshop available to him? Unless you have a full workshop at your house I say this is a fairly unfair request

you might have in your mind that major work is required. We talking basic stuff such as oil, service, breaks....

If the brakes breaks, you are in for a whole lot of poo:cartel:
.....definitely not basic stuff then

An oil service would probably require the car to be in the air to drain the oil, the car would need to be in the air to remove the wheels to bleed the brakes, air filter should be easy enough to swap, brake pads would require the same as the brake bleeding, etc

Okay, could you recommend a workshop to take the car please?

Im unfortunately situated in CPT and not familiar with the shops in Fourways.

Im sure there are members here who can point you in the right direction.

Oil, filters and brakes are maintenance a lot of members do themselves. I can only assume you have little experience yourself, and is therefore looking to have it done, and under your supervision is seems.

You might have issues with workmanship guarantees if not workshop based.

Where are you based? would you have someone assist you, as opposed to offering you a service and you expecting some kind of guarantee?

I do basic maintenance stuff myself, at home, and I'm realistic in that, I'll have to fix stuff I break.

Make a friend who knows how to maintain these cars, learn form them, that is what I've done, and still do.

Also, draft a detailed scope and post it here, maybe someone close to you can assist. i.e as opposed of just "brakes", what do you need? assessment / discs / pads / sensors / bleed?

Ross Duncan in Midrand is within reach to you.

He specializes in BMW, a quick forum search will give you an idea of other members using his services.

I understand your reservations, but if you entrust it to Gizmo at his premises, you will have everything done as expected. Taking that amount of equipment to you is very high risk, the computer needed for diagnostics is a fortune alone, the car has to be lifted a bit to get under it properly to drain the oil, ramps would need to be carried, lotsa hassle....basically, take it to Gizmo in Alberton, he's a man of his word...

Having used Gizmo you can trust his work - will send tons of pics of any issues he uncovers, a good man to trust. His labour isn't cheap but it is of high standard, and at the end of the day an extra 10-20% on labour is WELL worth it to get your car properly cared for by somebody who has passion and is seriously competent.

He get's my +1 :)

If the car requires basic servicing, then you might as well take it to the dealer. I just serviced my 330 and the cost was around R2000. (M/Plan paid though...)
