Hey guys,

Could you please give me some advice.
I would like to remove my catalytic converter and egr.
What are the pros and cons?

TIA. David

There are zero cons. The egr and cat are fitter to the car for emission regulations in European countries. Removing the cat would make the exhaust gasses cooler and as a result add to the longevity of the turbo, you might also score a bit of throttle response.

Blanking the EGR would not really have much of a performance advantage ,but it would definitely prevent build up in the EGR that could cause issues later on.

Is yours manual or auto. The cat on the manual is easy to get out as the access to the turbo from below is not as difficult as it is on the auto. If you are handy with a spanner then it is an easy job. Egr delete is actually a two minute job but you need time to remove the egr and clean it as it is most probably clogged up with diesel gum. You should actually be more worried about getting your swirl flaps removed and the swindle holes plugged. At the same time clean the egr and just plug the vacuum pipe leading to it. Another very important item is getting the oil seperator out and remplacing it with the new style seperator that does not use the filter. I nowadays just remove the filter completely as i have found on my E60's that BMW did it already on some of these models.

who can help with this in Gauteng please

The LCI E90 320d doesn't have an EGR,so you don't need to block yours. Any reputable exhaust shop can remove the cat for you, I would personally suggest someone like Powerflow Randburg and if you maybe have a rand or two extra(+-R2500 for DP) just get a downpipe done which removes the cat anyway.

I agree with Soloman's advice to maybe see if you can source swirl flap blanking plates in CPT and get that done too. Maybe PM me with your number and I can send you a video on how to block-off your EGR,it's really very easy. Any good exhaust shop can remove your cat.

Did mine see my post BMW CPT. I would say clean intake and remove swirl flaps while at it. No real performance difference felt but qbout 8-1.5ltr per 100km lighter on fuel

Gents on the LCI 320d, are the swirl flaps still problematic? I read about the issue being on the M47 so I thought I'd be safe. Apologies for the thread off topic!

The LCI 320d E90s don't have swirl flaps so you have nothing to worry about:thumbs:
