I have a problem with my car (2007 E87 130i), I accidently feel asleep in the car and forgot to switch off my headlights till the battery drained off completely then tried jumpstarting it with no luck and trying again with another fully charged battery with no luck and it has displayed a red sign of steering lock fault and It can't start, according to my mechanic the steering column needs to be replaced.
I then locked the car and disconnected the negative terminal on the battery for computer to reset, later when I try opening the driver door manually it doesn't want to open and again the mechanic suggested that door lock is also faulty, so here are questions
1. how can I open the car/ how can I open a bonnet from the outside so that I can connect the battery on jumpstart points for it open with the remote?
2. Can the new battery resolve my steering lock fault because there hasn't been a sign of it being faulty before?
