HI

im in the market to be getting my first car

I was hoping someone could help with the below questions?

1. What mileage should i cap my search at (ONLY FSH)
2. Should i remove the DPF ? ive read reviews that in terms of fuel economy and reliability it betters your fuel economy and lowers the risk of and damaging the motor and its components - is it worth it to the affect on the environment?
3. Should i go for Automatic or Manual ?
4. Anything I should check out in terms of maintenance before purchasing the vehicle
5. Is the 120d e82 as reliable as they say it is

Hi, picked up me e82 120d earlier this year.

1. I had a personal preference of nothing over 150 000km but honestly these diesels are very reliable. As long as the service history checks out and it drives well I wouldn't be too concerned with mileage.
2. I don't think removing the DPF is worth the effect on the enviroment, diesel is a dirty fuel. But the sound is amazing with it removed and you can push a bit more power so it's your call.
3. Personally I feel like diesels should be auto, but that's a personal preference. Manuals are a bit rare in the 20ds.
4. If the mileage is >120 00km see if the transmission was serviced. Other than that regular servicing should be good.
5. Yes, it uses the same engine(N47) as the e90 320ds and a quick look on our roads will tell you these engines are rock solid. No major problems in SA.

Just note the e82 comes at a premium beacuse of the shape and prices just seem to be forever increasing. You can get a f30 320d for not much more than an e82 and the interior of that car is a big step up. But the e82 is a gorgeous vehicle and I didn't mind paying extra for it
