Black Friday takes place on 25 November 2016, the day after Thanksgiving in the United States.

Many local retailers are holding Black Friday sales in South Africa, but to see where the trend started, we must look across the Atlantic.

Since 1932, it has marked the beginning of the Christmas shopping season, with retailers opening earlier and closing later than usual and offering huge discounts on stock.

Below are a selection of the top Black Friday tech deals in the USA this year – giving you a taste of what Americans can get their hands on.

Was expecting more deals this year, last year was great when I bought my Samsung TV.

Been looking everywhere for a deal on a small compressor.

Interesting to see the Hisense brand in those stores.

Was thinking the same thing.

Hisense has come a long way. Their TVs are really good. Check out the top20 TV's in stuff magazine. Theres always a Hisense in there. Beats some of the Samsungs too.

And the sad reality is, most people will buy what they don't really need on credit cards, just cause its a little bit cheaper.

the guy who sits in front of me at work is thinking of buying one of those two door Samsung fridges.... he doesn't have a home yet :hammerhead:

That's just plain stupid. Its like this couple I know. They renting, and have a lot of debt, but they at the shops. (Yet they always talk a lot about getting debt free and buying a home)
