Hi Guys

I have just dropped off my M3 (at Sandton Auto) for its quality check in order to transfer the motorplan into my name

I just wanted to know from you guys a couple of things 9 im very new to the BMW family and a noob with regards to alot of things:flyfun:)

- which will be the best service center to take my car too?
- What are the service intervals? is it really 25000km's?
- what oil should i use when i refill oil at the garage?
- Where can i get run flats at a good price? Can u use normal tyres/or
should you?

I might have some more questions, but thats all for now:joy:

I would also like to know these things... you know... fellow noob here....
-What is the best Oil so that my M52 engine won’t get cooked and damaged?
-Where’s the best place to service? (Gauteng)

As for the service Intevals, some Fanatics informed me that the car tells you when it wants to be serviced. It will also tell you what type of service it needs (full or other) and how many km you’ve driven over that threshold when you start the car.

Many Enineers told me that the Interval will obviously become shorter the harder you drive the car. If you take things easy and Give the Engine enough fluids it could go up to like 28000 km :joy: otherwise I’d say 15000 km as a rule...
Correct me if I’m wrong...

There is no best service centre go to one that is convienent for you get to know the guys there and build a relationship if you jump around different places you will just get ok service. But if they are crap leave and go somewhere else

The computer will tell you when to bring it in. If you drive miss dazy everywhere you get your service in 25000km if you drive your M3 like it was meant to be driven you should be going every 15 to 20k

Buy the top up oil from the dealership its not expensive and it comes in a handy bag with Velcro always keep a bottle in the boot.

I find Autoquip has good prices on run flats. I would not change them to normal tyres since you don't have a spare and even if you had a spare in this country I don't think you want to be cought in your M3 trying to change a tyre in some didgy area. You have a flat big red light comes on and you can keep driving best idea ever. Also note you run flat indicator will not pick up steady preasure loss over time so check your preasures often to make your tyres last longer.

I hope this helps

DBecks How was your service? My car came back from Sandton Auto, let me just say it's never going back again.

I don't know if there is a best service place for BMW, I think the dealers are just full of k*k to be honest. I think see who does a good service for you, don't jump unless they suck, which is what I'm doing :=):.
As has been said, the computer will determine your service intervals, so no need to monitor your Km's. Generally, you should not need to fill up with oil at the garage because a) there isn't a dipstick b) the electronics measure the oil level, so that will let you know if you need oil. However, I have heard that Castrol Magnatec or Castrol Edge Sport is used, you may want to clarify with your salesman. Lastly, the tyres on the M3's are there for a reason, excellent grip, I believe you can get runflats but they will be expensive, the normal tyres are more than able, plus there is a tyre kit in the boot, so you won't have to change the tyre on the road. However, you can fit runflats on the car, don't let anyone tell you that you can't.

Let me know if you need more info.

Hey there,

I've used Sandton Auto (opposite Village Walk)...and in all honesty i cant complain...I have tried other dealerships before - Forsdick Sandton (opposite the Wedge) and had issues with them...so i dont think there is a rule of thumb...

Wrt the tyres...the standard "normal" tyres are decent enough....i personally do not see a reason to get run flats (the normal tyres have a strong enough side walls to get you to the nearest fitment centre) but hey..if you want to get run flats and sit with additional noise....go for it.
