Best Place to get good prices

Hey all,

Wanted to know what sparks plugs are best for an e36? And where to get them. As well as air filters (K&N).

Bosch platinum iridium plugs, are pretty good, can get them from the dealers, diesel electric or goldwagen, price I think is pretty much the same at the different places, around R50 per plug if I am not mistaken.

As for the filter and other filters, just get it from the dealers there prices are actually not to bad, don't waste your time with k&n and the like filters.

What model e36 are you riding ?
Have found better prices from Diesel electric for Bosch plugs than some spares shops for NGK . IMHO the cotton filter ( K&N etc. )passes more air through due to filter medium being less dense , also lets small dust particles through .I use GUD filters , never found any problems .Check prices at dealer as well for oil , try use 10-40 or so instead of 20-60 , the thicker oil takes longer to reach dry areas at every startup .

Yup I usually just got the plugs from the dealers as they were on my way home from work, so not worth it going all the way to diesel electric just to drive out the money that I would have saved. So it depends on who is closer as well.

Heya,

My Beamer is a (98)E36 318is motorsport 2.

So I'll go for NGK spark plugs 1st then Bosch. Now to find part numbers.

As for the air filter, I find a lot of good reviews about K&N air filters on forums...so its hard to choose something else like GUD Filter...but I shall figure this out.

Does anyone know a place in sandton, or around sandton, to get the spark plugs and/or air filter at reasonable prices? Believe Autostyle sell the K&N air filter for R650. Think I could find somewhere else for cheaper. Just need to know where...

Now for my noobness, should I get my one RIM repaired (R750), or is it safer just to buy 4 new rims(+R3500)? I do know some RIM repair shops won't repair it (to badly damaged) and others will repair it, such as the wheel shop.

Here's a pic of my RIM (damaged from a pothole)

That looks like a Dept of Transport claim... Sorry about the loss. Don't repair that please.

I've tried Claiming from the road accident fund, but like all SA goverment departments, I came to a dead end.

My insurance (outsurance) would cover it and give me money to the value of the rims, which sounds good, minus the excess of R2500. So I'd be stuck with my car on bricks, short of cash to buy four 17inch rims....

And why the hell is it so hard to find 5 spoke, 17inch Rims with a 5/120 pcd? Anybody know where I can get a descent set of rims, since repairing my Rim seems to give me an uneasy feeling.

BTW, twt don't do 5/120...perhaps i should try Mintys

After Market...

I will be happy with 17 inch m3 rims (obviously replicas due to the fact that m3 rims don't come in 17s)

E36 M3 wheels were in 17" -- you could get a set for about R7k from the gum.

Woah... that pic brings back memories of Mpumalanga Roads :drink:

Mintys or Autostyle would be your best option..... those A-line Scorpio rims will look nice on an E36 :thumb:

Yes, I stand corrected....after checking the tree that is gum, I see motorsport rims, very costly.

As for those A-line Scorpion Rims, they more suited to the e30s or taxis :p not my style unfortunately.

Less is better (and lighter) so i'll stick to 5 spoke

Ok, so my fear of rep wheels is not unfounded then.

Replicas suck balls...cause they usually weigh much more then originals...but if the original was light to begin with, in terms of amount of metal used, then replicas will be slightly heavier, but not hectically
