Best place/shop to do downpipes on a n54 335i

Hi i was just wondering were do you guys recommend me to fit n54 downpipes. The first place i phoned said they need the car for 2 days to fit them which i think is a joke!:roflol:
I looked at a website and they said 3 hours or more.
and they said it would cost R2500 in labour and that's also madness at least to me.

I have a pair of nice 3inch catless ones.

Since its just to fit it, try any exhaust shop. ... 2500 and 2 days is a bit mental though as some shops can make them from scratch and fit them in a shorter time...

I feel like they were trying to rip me off so im gona teach them a lesson it was a quote from Profit exhaust.
What is a fair price for the 3 hours it will actually take to do the job if you don't spend time on other cars.

Depends on the shop you use, labor rates per hour will vary between shops.

i bought mine off a friends 135i that made 360wkw and paid R3000 they are titanium alloy also so they look nice. new they go for almost R8000 if i remember right (the ones i have) but i am sure you can find something new at about R6-7000

i would just buy ones second hand tho save money for something that will work 100% as good as the new ones

Have you ever fitted down pipes on an N54? i can tell you that passing kidney stones is a more pleasant experience!

the clearances are super tight at when using 3inch pipes... i would happily allow a shop to quote between 2-4 hours depending if they need to adjust it of the ramp and back on...

No i have not and i don't have the tools to do it or guts to try atm.
I am happy with paying for 2-4 hours for labour but that can't be more than R1000-R1200 to install. AND IT CAN'T EVER TAKE THE WHOLE DAY NEVER MIND 2 DAYS LMAO! C-teq charges me R350 a hour in labour for part fitment (thats very normal) but he recommends me to do the downpipes at a exhaust shop as they do it more often and could possibly do it faster. C-teq has a wallnut blasting/carbon clean deal on for R3000 new oem seals ect.

The issue is everything in there needs to cool down, since you in the bowels of the engine bay that might take a while to happen. Therefore they ask for a day install time.

If its profit exhaust in koeberg road, they do a good job on N54. If not done 100% correct, they easily shift a bit and cause vibrations etc. Drop in morning collect end of day

Getting to the turbos on these N54 motors is a very big job, 2 days sounds about right.
My mechanic pulled the turbos off my car along with the downpipes in a day and a little into the night. I was only able to come see the following morning, and that was with a cold car that had already been there to cool the day prior.
To get the turbos off he had to drop the whole subframe, granted you wont need to do this for the downpipes but its almost as big of a job.

Remember waiting for the car to cool down takes a couple hours, then taking them off is a MASSIVE job in itself, then they need to build one and test the bends then adjust then weld etc then fit. Its a much easier job for the Americans with there left hand drive cars as the steering column isn't in the way.

It takes me a day to fit DPs properly. I dont want a customer to come back because of DPs not fitted right. I normally asked for it to be dropped the night before. It also gives me an opportunity to check out the car while under there...such as oil leaks from the turbos...the oil sump etc.

You peeps keep saying if us a big job on an N54. Is it easier on an N55? As I understood it, the blocks are basically the same so I gather the job would be as difficult in terms of clearance to work.

Same process for N55. But not so frustrating since you dealing with only one pipe.

If you are near Randburg give Tweek performance a call. They did my downpipes at the most reasonable price compared to the other shops I called. I also only needed fitment. I dropped my car off on a Friday afternoon and picked up mid day on Saturday. Give Trish a call. He's a really nice guy!

Do you know estimated prices on Down pipes for the N54?

Have a look at the Mr Turbo website and get a quote. I would say they are around R3000-R4000 for the DPs. If you can get a second hand set, even better.
