So basically 10Mb ADSL in SA doesn't work properly.

4.6 on a 10Mb line, where I get 3.6 on my 4Mb line..

It all depends how far you are from the exchange, I got 10mb with no issues

I'd take these tests with a pinch of salt. Yes, agree we're behind, especially with our sh!t Telkom lines which brings the average down - but it's an average...

Test done in good old SA:

Also, there's lots of mobile phones with slow connectivity in this country, which brings the average lower again. But the bigger issue facing us is not the speeds available in SA, but rather the costs associated with them - and specifically the costs to get from your home/office to an exchange. To date, as a consumer, there's simply very little cost effective alternatives to Telkom copper in this country.

What does a 10mb line cost you guys P/M if you dont mind me asking?

Its +/- R1800 with telcom, but note the restriction i think between
6am and 6pm its 600kp/s
6pm and 10pm its 2mbps
10pm and 6am its "UP TO" 10mbps

they suck big time.

Jees thats quite steep to for "not always 10mb/s"

I have an account with Afrihost, only a 2mb but they seem to do a good job.
They also handle my Helkom line.

In all fairness I think the Telkom 4Mb line is sufficient for work and play.

+1

I think the 4mb line are pritty much as good as it gets here in SA.

Just remember that on a 4mb line at the moment you can get up to 10mb, if you running a capped account then you'll be able to pull at max line speed available but if you on uncapped then you limited to your isp account
