Battery short circuit, main fuse?

Hi all!

I was busy installing a new amplifier in my E46 320d Touring (12/2003) and while unmounting the + connection from the battery my wrenching tool accidentally touched the bracket holding the battery in place, resulting in a short-circuit. Everything went 'down' immediately.

I can't find any blown fuse in the fuse box, the battery still holds 12 volts. What am i missing here? Is there a 'main fuse' somewhere?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Is the battery holding 12V under load? They can fail internally but because they contain conductive acid will still measure 12V with no load.

Thx for the quick reply!

Yes it seems to, just hooked up a SUNON 8x8 12v 1.4w fan on it, blows air as it should.

Ok first with the real advice: For any electrical work on your car, ONLY remove the NEGATIVE (-) lead from the battery. That is all that is required.

Have you checked the main under bonnet fuses?

I found an 250 amp & 80 amp fuse, they seem to be working fine...

Something odd.. When i measure the voltage between the 2 leads on the battery i get a 12v reading, when i measure between the + and the car itself it only reads 3v, tried different places.

A dealer told me to 'reset' the system by: detaching the battery, connecting the +&- cables and let it rest for about an hour, if this fails i'm going to install a new battery.
Hope new battery will fix it, i don't want to order a new CU.

Omg, the reset thing worked, everything is working as it should!!!

I'm so happy right now :))

Thanks everyone for the help and support!
