Battery discharging

Hi Guys

I'm driving a 2012 E92 335. The car was parked in the yard and the doors were not locked ( I would say the doors were not locked for 30minutes ). When I inserted my key fob into the ignition a message popped up on my IDrive say battery is discharging. The car started perfectly fine with no errors after that

Is there any reason why this happened?

When you close the door, the interior lights will go off eventually if I recall correctly. Your car will still be on for about 15 minutes and then it will go into standby mode since you didnt lock your car I believe.

When you lock your car, the same thing will play off except that 15 min later the car will go into sleep mode and then wake up every hour for a quick scan of the car (which takes milliseconds)

Maybe a door or something wasnt closed properly and the dome light i.e. the interior light took a while to go off. Just see in the error codes section of your idrive if the car stored a code.

Yes that's correct the interior lights do off eventually. Both doors and the boot was closed

Previous owner could've forgotten about it.

Battery is 5 years old. Change it. The cold isn't helping

Maybe get in touch with @ratslaaf and see if he can assist. his the boffin on these things. I would also take the car to a battery center and get them to test it and give a printed report to make sure it isn't the battery

With a new battery? If the car is still on plan make BMWs problem.

Did you change the battery sinc least year and if so was it registered to the car?

When the car went to BMW they found no fault on the battery so it wasnt replaced

Well you had a problem initially in the onset of winter last year and it has cropped up again this winter... My thinking is your battery is largely at fault here..

I doubt its winter because this has been happening for a while

I would suggest get a new battery.
