Thanks guys for the valuable input.
The car is at the auto electrician today.
Apparently the regulator and rectifier is stuffed :thumbdo::bangdesk:

That is one and the same thing. Once replaced all will be fine again.

ok, I thought that it is 2 different parts.

A voltage rectifier converts an alternating current (AC) voltage to a direct current (DC) voltage.
A voltage regulator converts a fluctuating DC voltage to a constant DC voltage.

Most of the time the rectifier is fine but some autolec's replace them as precaution. But it is still cheaper than a new alternator and it will be fine.

All sorted out. The Bosch rectifier was the most expensive part.

Don't know if it's just my imagination, but the car felt sluggish today.

Does it have anything to do with battery being disconnected:thinking:

I am not sure but if you leave the battery disconected for more than 12 hours on an e46 the adaptions are reset
