Thanks for the positive comments Rory.
This is the first customer review where we did not conduct the service we where meant too.
Rory's specific 530D has the motor with the twin port intake. Pictured below you will see there is a split in the manifold. On low rpm the longer path is used and on the higher rpm the flaps open to allow more air through.
The crack of the matter is after taking the car apart we realized the high rpm port is not straight and has a right to left bend prior to reaching the valve. I used the boroscope and studied the valves hard whilst rotating the crank and just didn't feel comfortable to clean them as there was uncertainty in regard to the valves being closed. We have now solved this by reading crank signal via OBD and have the right angles per valve required to be closed.
Looking at the car though with just around 100,000km on the clock I can say that the car didn't need a clean and in future will recommend them on this specific motor above 150,000km. Two out of the four high rpm valves showed signs of slight restriction.
The EGR valve was as clean as could be with the only restriction being the feed to it. Here is a pic as we found it:
The manifold flaps where also found to be in great order.
The main thing is that the right amount of caution has to always be exercised when working on a vehicle and in this case still have good service without achieving the objective.
