Avin Multimedia System

Hey Guys,

I currently have a F20 135i LCI with the smaller multimedia system and looking to upgrade it to the larger display and hopefully add CarPlay to it.

Has anyone got experience with the Avin units ? I’m not to afraid of the installation process but if there is someone locally who stocks them this would be great? The system seems like a solid upgrade and I cannot see anything negative around it but wanted to just find out from the community first? Or if there are other suggestions out there that I should also consider?

I really want CarPlay added and this system offers that with the additional dongle that can be bought with the unit.

Feedback would be appreciated. I did see that there are other threads regarding this and would like to also ask if this effects motoplan in anyway as I still have 3 years remaining on that with BMW.

It's an awesome unit bud. There is a place in Pretoria that installs these but I am not too sure of their quality as it is not the avinusa versions (it looks slightly different). I imported mine directly from china from carlifemall. The thing about the avin units is that they have the upgraded interface to have the latest idrive unterface otherwise they are all mostly the same. What you want is customer service. There is only one downside I have faced because you need to move the fibre optic cables into the new interface, is that when the car goes to service, the service is not updated to the car. But that could just be my car.

So I say go for it. It's worthwhile. The addition of GPS and navigation and reverse cam is the the best. Google maps is a bit slow on there though but Waze and sygic is awesome. I use both. Sygic when I don't have no celluar signal and am more in rural places and Waze works well in the city.

Thanks for the feedback man! Iv decided to import from Avin directly, I chatted with the team that side and all in all with shipping the entire kit will set me back 9K for their latest system. This is with the rear camera system included. It goes up to just under 11K with the front camera system that I don’t really see myself using to often to justify the additional cost (I reverse park most of the times anyways).

I’ll be purchasing at the beginning of December so that I have some time to fiddle with the installation during my Christmas holidays. I’ll keep everyone posted here on my journey with the unit and the process. Looking forward to it.

@Soprono can you tell me if you have any audio issues with the Android 10 unit I assume you have - specifically playing a video (youtube or so) on the unit and audio through the cars speakers?

None bud. It's been to servicing twice now with the unit installed and no issues what so ever.

Remember it still keeps the main control box from BMW nothing changes there other than the heads up unit.

The Audio from the android side is actually very good. on par with OEM. The only issue really is when in android mode and switching to the oem side, the audio stops, which totally sux. on the plus side, if you are polaying music on the android side, you can now use the wheel to skip through random tracks. Which is great.

So for example...if I have the Youtube music app open on the android side and playing music and I go in ot the OEM menu to check the oil level for example, the music stops? Can you not split screen between android and OEM and still have the music playing?
