Audio adapter 3.5mm male to female USB for music playback

Hello peeps

Got a question. My car has a 3.5mm auxillary port for playing music. I'd like to know if I managed to get a 3.5mm male to USB female audio adapter, would I be able to play music from a USB flash drive through the audio adapter? Has anyone tried this out. Also where can I buy such an adapter, there seems to be none in SA, only from foreign internet sites. I've attached a picture so those in the know understand what I'm on about.

Regards

Sunny

I would be very surprised if that setup works. The USB device needs power and it'll need two way comms to select files for playback. However, for cables and "stuff" try www.dx.com.
(It does take a while to get your order...)

That looks like something model specific.

A normal 3.5mm Stereo plug has 3 segments (Ground; R+; L+)
If you look closely at the pic you will see that the 3.5mm plug has 4 segments which match a USB connector (GND; D- ; D+; +5V)

The second issue is that the 3.5mm connector in most cars is an analogue audio connection whereas a USB is a Digital connection

:sorry:

65410427467 is your answer

the 3.5mm is an analog connection into the back of the ASK.

If you want to go for the fully integrated USB plug, then you have install the module and break into the MOST bus

A Ipod integration kit with USB can do it for you(part number is 65410427467)

Alternatively, look at the Dension Gateway, although distributed by SMAC, they have taken the product off the market, Dension is not represented by anyone in SA at the moment (PLEASE correct me if I am wrong here)

I am doing a Dension Gateway 500 in the E60 at the moment..

Cheers guys. If I can get an adapter at a reasonable price (there is a SA website sellinng it for R750!) I guess I can try it out to see if it will work, if not I'll get some sort of aftermarket kit that would be compatible, sooner or later somebody's got to have something that can be retrofitted at a reasonable cost.

Don't know if this answers your question but BMW offer an interface as retrofit for full iPod useability .

Some of the newer phone kits also come with this functionality - or alternately stream from your phone if it has one of these kits.
