Anyone know what this is?

The car in question is a 2003 E46 325i. This "plug" is at the front right side. It's next to the cable for the front right fog light.

What is this supposed to plug into? Or what plugs into this?[/align]

Is it just me or does it look like a plugs broken off inside there and the wires cut? Looks like individual copper strands.

Definitely does look like it was ripped out of wherever it belongs. The clip to secure the female plug in place is still holding onto the male counterpart.

Have a good look behind your headlight. Could be for the adjuster motor or something.

I checked this and nothing seems to be missing from behind the headlight. The headlights still adjusts up and down properly.

It's very possible that it's been ripped out from somewhere. A couple weeks ago a taxi clipped my front bumper and literally ripped it out. See this thread:

that is for the temperature sensor

sure looks like it

:coolShake:

Could be, but I am pretty sure the temperature sensor(external) is on the left.

??

On my E36 it was on the left, but on the E39 it is on the right ??

I can confirm that temp sensor on E46 is on the left. Had that replaced about a year ago on the car.
