Howzit.

I have the privilege of working in Brasil albeit offshore.
Things are expensive generally and soon as they smell u a "gringo", that is what they call foreigners here not necessarily just yanks, then prices sometimes become inflated.
Food is one of the cheaper things here.....especially the churrasqueiras....like braai houses...u pay by weight.
But as in all holidays....don't convert the currency every time u buy something as i assure u that u will cry!

Put your cash into a Cash Passport card at the forex exchange back home. That way u get the better exchange rate and don't pay the stupid fees the banks charge u. Also u can have it topped up if u need to by simply Phoning them.

Put your cell phone onto the partner networks there for whichever is your network at home. I am on Vodacom so the partner networks there are TIM and Oi.

And speaking the language is a big help. Fortunately I am portuguese so that is a huge help.

Hope this info helps u.

Hi Bud

Thank you for the advise, Its good to know these things, I was
just afraid of them local merchants picking up there price when
I want to buy

I will be converting my cash this side, The travel agent says I must
convert into dollars here and then convert the dollars into Brazilian Real
once I arrive is that another option I should look at ?

My best advice is to rather open a cash passport card at foreign exchange.
Just google Cash Passport card and u will see who does it. It costs nothing to open. U pay NO charges when u use it except if u draw money...but then u pay one amount no matter how much u draw. And also it is safer than to carry all your cash with u.

And your travel agent is thinking old school. Having dollars cost you the exchange fees at home then u pay exchange fees again when u change to reais here.....agent doesn't seem to be very money savvy at all.

Good luck and enjoy it!!
