Anybody interested in a 1989 735i?

Hi guys

I have been tasked with selling my dad's old E32. He is in his eighties and owns three other cars. My mom doesn't drive anymore, so the old limo has become redundant.

It is a white 1989 735i. It still runs but there are some issues. The body is free of rust and the interior is in pretty good (almost excellent) condition.

The thing is, I don't really know what to ask for it. Two buyers expressed interest but on both occasions the deal fell through. I had somebody pestering me the other day to sell it, but I could see he was just looking for a cheap set of wheels. He would probably sneak it through roadworthy via the back door and drive it into the ground. I just can't let that happen.

This car needs some money spent on it but it would be worth it to the right kind of BMW fanatic. I would take it on but I already have two other Beemers in need of TLC and cash. Besides, the kids thinks it is extremely uncool and do not want to be seen in it. I tried to tell them that will be cool at some time in the future, but they are immune to the charm of old school cars like this.

So if there is any interest, please say so and I will tell more. Maybe even post a picture or two. Oh, one final (probably crucial) detail - the car is currently at my place in Pretoria.

I owned the (1992)E32-730i for about 6 years, and loved every moment, it was perfect when I traded her in on my current E39-530d.
Still miss her everday, in fact I spotted the "old gal" here in KempTune about 4 weeks ago, and followed her to owners home, and took some pictures.
I recal that I was given about R30K trade in, in 2007, and I would expect that your price would be between R25K to R35K, depending on the condition.

That was quick! :=):

Here are some pics.

A "slight" cosmetic issue is visible on the left front fender. I think Mom did it, but I have never asked, hehehe.

The car has been washed since the pictures were taken, but I really should vacuum the interior. Apologies for that.

Any requests other angles and details can be done tomorrow.

The exact mileage is unknown, as there is a poltergeist in the dashboard and the diplay shows ~18 000 km. From what I have read on the ineterwebs, it may be as simple as replacing the capacitors in the instrument panel. Or not.

The micro switch for the central locking and alarm in the drivers door needs replacement, I think. I used the car as a daily driver for a few months and the alarm went off a few times when unlocking the car. I lived with it and applied Q20 to keep the problem at bay. The kids did not see the humor when it happened at the school, though.

The radio still plays casettes, but the electric aerial is broken so I don't know about FM. The LCD on the radio is a little weird. It is OK after disconnecting the battery but after a week or two it becomes unreadable.

In the interest of full disclosure, I will have to tell all about the mechanical maladies. The self levelling suspension seems to be leaking. The hydraulic oil in the system is probably due for replacement as the power steering feels weird when driving off on a cold day, but it settles down quickly. My guess is that there is water in the works but I am not well versed in E32s. I do know just about every malady that E39 and the E46 suffers from, but that is a long story.

On the front side it feels like some bushes need replacement. There is a pronounced wobble at around 95 km/h. If you stay below 90 or above 100 you are OK. In my previous and present E39 a similar problem was fixed with new bushes.

The exhaust system leak at the back and rattles at the front where it meets the manifold.

Those are the issues. Some of them may be familiar to long term E32 owners.
