Any1 been to Vic falls lately? I heard that as of 1 Jan 2013 the currency has changed to 1Kwacha = 1 Rand. So my question/s, do they still use US dollars? Should i book my activities when i get there or should i book them from here? Are ATM's easily available?

When I was there last in October, the US dollar is preferred currency, but they also accept Rands, haven't heard the "Quacha" rumour yet.

I think they converted over to us dollars, kwacha will never be equal to 1 rand, that will make most of the residents millionaires. my dad is actually there now for work, will make sure for you

I read about the currency rebasing on wikipedia. Well the old kwacha was so weak that R1 would get you 1000 kwacha so they had to reset the currency.

No that's impossible. Meaning everyone with cash on hand will automatically be turned rich. I think that's the reason why they converted to dollars.

R0.01 will get you 6 Kwacha..

The ATM there are freely available, if you have a Cheque (not sure about others?) card you can just withdraw money.

Oh okay, I see what you meant.

1000 old kwacha = 1 new kwacha.

Been there lats year....

US Dollar is the prefered currency.

You can use rands:thumbs:

ATM`s are not available easily there:thumbdo:

Book your activities when you get there.... I had actually found a guy who was a Taxi Cab Driver, he became my Tour guide. Took me everywhere i wanted to go. He also got the activities for half the price they normally charge. He was a local & brought business to the other guys so he negotiated a "Special Rate" So i suggest you find a guy like that. I think i still have his number. If i find it i will give it to you.

*** Please visit a Club called the Blue Zulu whilst you are there :joy::joy:

The currency rebasing hasn't affected the exchange rate. It just means that they've lopped a few zeroes off each note.

There's no way it's going at that rate. Buying a phone (for example) in Zambia costs you millions, the economy has rapidly improved though.

Google says that the rate is ......1 kwacha = R0.001
