I am a casual Star Wars fan. The 1970s-80s trilogy is the best. Then I would say Rogue One and then (unpopular viewpoint that hardcore fans will kill me for saying) The Last Jedi. The rest of the movies seemed too childish.
I watched a few episodes of the Mandalorian TV show and was relatively impressed. However, I stopped at Season 1 since it failed to grip me in the later episodes.
Enter Andor. Being a fan of Rogue One, I was keen to see what Andor was about. It is very much an old school espionage/Cold War story that happens to be set in the Star Wars universe. It is partly written by Beau Willimon, who wrote House of Cards (US version) and you can sense the maturity in the dialogue in the show. First 3 episodes are very slow and will turn away most people. Thereafter it picks up speed and adds more depth. There is even a heist story and then a prison break story in the middle of the season, and these feel like mini movies in themselves.
I can see why die hard Star Wars fans may dislike this show. I enjoyed it a lot. So much so, that I would say it is one of the best TV shows ever made.
Anyone else watched Andor? If you like old school Cold War inspired movies and not too much Scifi, then this is worth a watch.
